The NBA gets a big basketball weekend off to a strong start tonight with eight games on the schedule. Whether you’re building your team around a star guard like James Harden or Giannis Antetokounmpo or going with a big man like Karl-Anthony Towns or Nikola Jokic, you’ll probably be searching for some value plays to round out your roster. If you are shopping for a player under $4K, check out these players in today’s Bargain Bin that bring fantasy potential despite their minimal salaries:
Kosta Koufos – C – SAC vs. WAS – ($3,900) – The Kings’ rotation continues to be unpredictable since they moved DeMarcus Cousins at the trade deadline, but Koufos has been a consistent part of their solution in the middle despite a revolving door of young big men beside him. Koufos has at least 25 DKFP in each of his last three games and has posted exactly ten rebounds helping him to three straight double-doubles.
Koufos is averaging 22.7 DKFP per game since the Cousins trade, and I think he is a great way to fill the middle with a cheap option tonight as the Kings host the Wizards. Washington has been in the middle of the pack against opposing centers most of the season, but they have allowed the fourth-most DKFP in the NBA to opposing centers over their last 10 games.
Patrick McCaw – SF – GS @ MIN – ($3,700) – While the Warriors have struggled without Kevin Durant, his injury has opened the door for more playing time for Patrick McCaw. In the four games since losing Durant, McCaw has started three times averaging 20.9 DKFP on 8.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals. He has played 27+ minutes in each of those three games posting at least 15 DKFP.
Since teams are focusing on taking away Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson while Durant is out, the “Splash Brothers” could definitely use some more help from the supporting cast like McCaw. If he’s in the lineup tonight against the T-Wolves, he’ll be a low-risk, low-ceiling play who should find ways to contribute.
Tony Snell – SG/SF – MIL vs. IND – ($3,800) – The Bucks have been scrambling due to multiple injuries, but they’ve won four straight to stay in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt. While Giannis Antetokounmpo is definitely the headliner, Milwaukee’s supporting cast has also stepped up – including Tony Snell.
Snell comes into tonight off two strong games against the Sixers and Knicks. He had 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in Philadelphia for 38.25 DKFP and followed that up with 24.75 DKFP on 10 points, seven boards, and two steals against New York. When the Bucks beat Indiana last month, Snell had 13 points and 26.75 DKFP on 4-5 shooting in just 21 minutes and also had a solid 22.25 DKFP against the Pacers when the two teams met early in the season. In expanded minutes tonight with Michael Beasley still out, Snell should be able to provide another solid stat line.
Ian Mahinmi – C – WAS @ SAC – ($3,500) – After being sidelined most of the season, Mahinmi has at least 15 DKFP in each of his last six games highlighted by a monster performance in Phoenix on Tuesday. Against the Suns, Mahinmi had 15 points, nine rebounds, and seven steals for a massive 43.25 DKFP in 26 minutes. In one of the best signs for the Wizards, Mahinmi was able to get back on the floor the following night for another 15 minutes and 16.5 DKFP in Denver.
While he is still a little risky since he is coming off the bench behind Marcin Gortat, the athletic Mahinmi has a very high ceiling in a good matchup in the late game tonight against Sacramento. He has been getting enough time to be an intriguing option tonight although there’s always a chance his injury issues could crop up again which keeps him as a higher-risk play than Koufos on the other side of the same matchup.
