Anthony Davis

The narrative being pushed in the media is that LeBron James ($14,600) is catching up to Giannis Antetokounmpo in the MVP race. The odds at DK Sportsbook seem to disagree, as Giannis is still a massive -560 favorite to win the award. LeBron is coming off of a huge weekend, but as double-digit favorites at home, the Lakers may opt to sit him. He is currently listed as questionable and his availability has a massive impact on this game.

Note: All salaries will be Flex prices unless noted as Captain’s Pick prices.

Stats provided by DraftKings Sportsbook

It’s hard to ignore the recent play of Caris LeVert ($10,400). He’s been on fire for the Nets, averaging 49.69 DKFP in his last four games. Not only has he seen an uptick in usage, but LeVert is also playing more of a facilitator role. He has at least five assists in four straight games, so the Nets are extremely reliant on LeVert right now.

It appears the Nets fired Kenny Atkinson as the head coach, at least in part, because he was starting Jarrett Allen ($6,800) over DeAndre Jordan ($8,000). Now that there has been a coaching change, I think we can expect Jordan to start for the rest of the season. In the first game with Jacque Vaughn at the helm, Jordan started and scored 42.75 DKFP. As long as he starts, DJ is somebody to consider rostering.

An injury on the Nets’ side, Garrett Temple has been ruled out of tonight’s game. This is going to be his fourth straight missed game. Without Temple, we can expect some more minutes to go to Taurean Prince ($5,600), bringing him into play. He’s scored over 20 DKFP in all of the games Temple has missed during this stretch. We have also seen extra playing time go to Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot ($1,800), so we can consider him a punt option.

The biggest news to watch out for is an update on LeBron James ($14,600). He’s questionable to play and his absence would create all kinds of additional fantasy opportunities. In the games LeBron has missed this season, Rajon Rondo ($3,000) has entered the starting lineup. As a starter, he’s yet to fail for fantasy purposes this season. Rondo is averaging 35.83 DKFP when he enters the starting lineup.

EDITOR’S NOTE: James has been upgraded to probable for tonight’s game vs. the Nets.

If James is out, Anthony Davis ($19,800 CP/$13,200) becomes the easy pick for captain. AD would be forced to carry the Lakers’ offense without LeBron and the numbers indicate he would have a big game. With James off the court this season, Davis has a 34.3% usage rating and scores 59.79 DKFP per 36 minutes. In addition, the Nets’ struggle to defend big men and the addition of Jordan to the starting lineup could hurt their defense. DJ is not the same defensive player he was in previous years.

Even though he isn’t an exciting play, Danny Green ($2,600) is relatively safe and a good source of value for his price. Since he starts, Green has secure playing time and he averages 18.46 DKFP as a starter. It’s unlikely he will kill a lineup given how cheap he is. Another source of value from the Lakers, Alex Caruso ($2,100) is a consideration. He doesn’t have the same floor as Green, but Caruso has more upside. He would also move into the backup point guard minutes if LeBron is ruled out.

Since LeBron is questionable, it’s a little tough to make a prediction. When he’s off the court, the Lakers become a significantly worse team on both ends of the court. Los Angeles scores 5.4 fewer points per 100 possessions and allows 5.0 more points per possessions when James is off the court. For now, I will predict a score assuming he plays, which would likely mean a fairly easy win for the Lakers. If he’s out, this should be a competitive game.

Final Score: Los Angeles 118, Brooklyn 106
