Fantasy Basketball Cheat Sheet: Best, Worst NBA Matchups for February 11

The NBA Cheat Sheet is an article that will come your way five days a week all season with the goal of breaking down the best and worst matchups/spots at each position.

It’s crucial to have all the latest lineup and injury news when constructing your fantasy basketball lineups. Make sure you’re following @DKLive for every update, and also feel free to hit me up on Twitter with any comments or questions — @JulianEdlow.

Here’s what stands out on Monday’s nine-game slate:

Defense vs. Position

Point Guard Matchups

BEST
Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards, 28th
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Clippers, 25th
Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks, 23rd

Chris Paul ($6,900) has returned to full form in his last three games. CP has seen his DKFP total rise in each of his last four outings, including almost 50 DKFP against OKC on Saturday. It seems like we can fully trust Paul again, especially at his discounted salary. Reggie Jackson ($5,600) is another option here, having scored 30-plus DKFP in six of his last seven games.

WORST
Charlotte Hornets at Indiana Pacers, 1st
Denver Nuggets vs. Miami Heat, 3rd
Chicago Bulls vs. Milwaukee Bucks, 4th

I’m not afraid of using Jamal Murray ($6,300) or Zach LaVine ($6,800) in these spots. Murray’s scored over 40 DKFP in consecutive games, and went for 34 DKFP in Miami earlier in the season. The Heat are winding down a tough West Coast trip and lost at Golden State on Sunday night. LaVine is simply too cheap for any matchup right now. He’s been spectacular of late, and has averaged 39 DKFP in two games against the Bucks.

Shooting Guard Matchups

BEST
Denver Nuggets vs. Miami Heat, 28th
Portland Trail Blazers at Oklahoma City Thunder, 27th
Milwaukee Bucks at Chicago Bulls, 26th

SG provides some of the best value on this slate, but the matchups don’t provide any help. There are better salary/situation plays on the board that just trump the matchups here, so unless the news changes, I won’t be looking at SGs on any of these teams.

WORST
Miami Heat at Denver Nuggets, 3rd
Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets, 9th
Chicago Bulls vs. Milwaukee Bucks, 10th

LaVine can slot in here, but one of the best SG values lately has been Dion Waiters ($4,100). Waiters has seen his minutes rise each game of the road trip, including 41 minutes and 39.25 DKFP on Sunday against the Warriors.

Small Forward Matchups

BEST
Los Angeles Clippers at Minnesota Timberwolves, 28th
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Clippers, 26th
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Portland Trail Blazers, 24th

I think we can consider plays from all three of these teams, along with a slew of SF plays. With all four of Minnesota’s PGs injured to a degree, Andrew Wiggins ($6,500) has been playing on the ball a lot more. That’s really helped his value, averaging over 49 DKFP in his last two games. Danilo Gallinari ($6,000) also makes sense on the other side of the matchup given all the pieces the Clippers sold off at the deadline. Paul George ($10,300) is always a consideration — averaging almost 60 DKFP over his last five and 58.5 DKFP in two games against Portland this season.

Editor’s note: Wiggins (illness) has been ruled out for tonight’s game.

WORST
Washington Wizards at Detroit Pistons, 1st
Charlotte Hornets at Indiana Pacers, 2nd
Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards, 3rd

Marvin Williams ($4,500) has seen his role clearly grow over the last 7-10 days. He’s still too cheap regardless of matchup. Same goes for Luke Kennard ($3,900), who saw 29 minutes on Friday after the Pistons moved Reggie Bullock and Stanley Johnson at the deadline.

Power Forward Matchups

BEST
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. New York Knicks, 30th
Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets, 28th
Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards, 27th

The Cavs have some good value to offer at PF. Marquese Chriss ($3,000) is averaging 23.5 minutes per game since entering Cleveland’s rotation, checking in at the minimum salary. Larry Nance Jr. ($5,900) has been the real beneficiary of Cedi Osman’s (ankle) absence. Nance is averaging 36 minutes and 45 DKFP over his last two games. Nance also dropped 40 DKFP in this matchup earlier in the season. Blake Griffin ($9,000) is also in a strong spot, averaging 48 DKFP in two games against Washington this season.

WORST
Dallas Mavericks at Houston Rockets, 3rd
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Portland Trail Blazers, 8th
Miami Heat at Denver Nuggets, 9th

The PF salaries on the Mavericks are starting to catch up to them following their roster overhaul, but they’re still not priced as high as they should be. We can keep going here for value until the prices rise a bit more.

Center Matchups

BEST
Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets, 30th
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Clippers, 27th
Milwaukee Bucks at Chicago Bulls, 26th

While Marc Gasol ($7,000) is tempting in this matchup, he played just 19 minutes off the bench in his debut with the Raptors. Serge Ibaka ($6,100) is still the starting center, and a much better play for the time being. Karl-Anthony Towns ($10,000) has been on a tremendous roll lately, and scored 52.5 DKFP against the Clippers in their lone matchup.

WORST
New York Knicks at Cleveland Cavaliers, 1st
Charlotte Hornets at Indiana Pacers, 2nd
Denver Nuggets vs. Miami Heat, 3rd

Nikola Jokic ($10,400) is never a safe fade. He’s topped 60 DKFP in consecutive games, as well as four of his last six. He scored 63.25 DKFP in the matchup in Miami this season, so we know he can produce in this spot.

Lineup Quick Hits

Superstar Worth Paying For

Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN vs. LAC ($10,000) — This is a close slate as to who we pay up for. In the end, I think KAT saves us some salary and gives us the highest upside. He’s been trending in the right direction, and has a great matchup against the Clippers.

Save The Big Bucks By Drafting …

Dion Waiters, MIA at DEN ($4,100) — If Waiters had an off-day between his game in Golden State and this game, he likely would’ve been priced over $5,000. Even though he’s on the second leg of a tough back-to-back, Waiters is still too cheap in Denver.

Next Man Up

Trade Deadline Still Offers Value — Rostering players in favorable matchups helps, but the Trade Deadline still leaves tons of players in roles that their salaries have not yet adjusted to. We want to take advantage of this for as long as possible. Find those players in new roles that remain underpriced.
