After winning just 77 games last season, the Padres are off to a 14-12 start in 2015 — good for second-place in the NL West.

Adding names like Matt Kemp, James Shields, Wil Myers and Justin Upton has certainly helped their improvements, and figure to help all season. But in a day and age of highly advanced statistics, San Diego may have just picked up on something that other clubs are yet to identify.

Groundbreaking research indeed. But apparently this type of statistical analysis has been involved all season on the Padres’ broadcasts.
Who knows what they’ll think of next? But it’s going to be tough to find a baseball statistic more important than these ones. These “keys to the game” seem to be working for San Diego so far, so keep up the hard work over there.
