It’s travel day in the MLB, so it’s a modest four-game slate tonight. Let’s take a look at our studs and values and try to remember what it’s like to not roster Coors players. Let’s do this!
As always, ask any questions to @JasonWalker_72 on Twitter.
Kenta Maeda – LAD vs. MIA – $10,000 – Maeda is a slight favorite to win, and he faces the Marlins who are eighth worst against RHP this season and have the lowest exit velocity on batted balls on the slate tonight (86 mph).
Tyler Wilson – BAL vs. CWS – $4,800 – Not much on the value side here in these four games, so Wilson, who is a -125 favorite to win against the White Sox tonight, gets the call. The White Sox are bottom ten against RHP and Wilson has been getting over 50% ground balls his last two outings.
David Ortiz (1B) – BOS @ ATL – $4,700 – Ortiz enjoys a huge .417 wOBA split against righties, and faces RHP Jhoulys Chacin has allows a .369 wOBA against.
Matt Carpenter (3B) – STL @ ARI – $4,400 – You might be surprised, but few players hit the ball hard as consistently as Carpenter and has an expected power number of 183 (on a 100 scale) this season after finishing top ten in that category last season. Toss in his .385 vs. RHP wOBA and ARI SP de la Rosa’s .403 wOBA against LH bats and he’s a strong play at $4.4K.
Mark Trumbo (OF) – BAL vs. CWS – $4,500 – Trumbo has a .385 wOBA against LHP and CHW SP John Danks has a .355 wOBA against RH bats. Trumbo also has a 90 mph avg exit velocity this season and a 147 expected power rating.
Paul Goldschmidt (1B) – ARI vs. STL – $5,100 – Michael Wacha has a reverse split and Goldy has a .409 wOBA against RHP. For the season, Goldschmidt has a 93 mph avg exit velocity and a 162 expected power rating.
Manny Machado (SS/3B) – BAL vs. CWS – $4,600 – Machado batting second in a 4.5 expected team total against LHP Danks makes this a top matchup today. Machado has a solid 90 mph avg exit velocity and a 145 hard hit rating (on a 100 is avg. scale).
Brandon Moss (1B) – STL @ ARI – $3,700 – Moss has been crushing recently, allowing his stats to catch up with his always elite power metrics (92 mph exit velocity, 207 expected power). The Cardinals are forecasted for 4.7 runs today, and Moss gets Rubby de la Rosa, who has a .403 wOBA against LH bats.
David Peralta (OF) – ARI vs. STL – $3,600 – Cardinals starter Wacha is tougher on lefties than righties, but Peralta has a .400 wOBA against RHP, so I like Peralta against any RHP.
Travis Shaw (3B) – BOS @ ATL – $3,700 – Shaw has been stinging the ball recently, with a 32% hard hit percentage and 90 mph exit velocity. He also has a .355 wOBA against RHP.
