WASHINGTON NATIONALS VS. ATLANTA BRAVES

BRAVES MONEYLINE (+110)

Mike Foltynewicz broke out last season. He always had good stuff, but it never translated to strikeouts until 2018, leading to a 2.85 ERA. This season, everything has gone south. Folty started on the IL and immediately started getting lit up when the Braves activated him. After 10 starts, he has a 5.53 ERA. Looking at his numbers, the issue isn’t all that tough to solve. The once overwhelming stuff for Foltynewicz wasn’t the same and his fastball velocity was diminished upon his return from injury. However, things are looking up. After starting his season with a fastball in the 93 mph range, Folty is averaging 95-96 mph in his past few starts. This should help him get back to the pitcher he was from last year and this is a good point to buy low. Atlanta has won 11 of its past 14 games.

Related Bet: NATIONALS VS. BRAVES TOTAL RUNS SCORED

UNDER 10.5 RUNS (-109)

Expecting a bounce back from Foltynewicz correlates with a lower-scoring game. The total is extremely high and Anibal Sanchez has reinvented himself late in his career. In 2017, he lost his starting job with the lowly Tigers and it appeared his career was coming to an end. The Braves picked him up prior to last season and reworked his pitch mix, effectively revitalizing his career. With the Braves, Sanchez had a 2.83 ERA last season and he’s followed it up with a 3.84 ERA in Washington. These pitchers aren’t as bad as the run total indicates.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS VS. COLORADO ROCKIES

DODGERS -1.5 (-127)

Nobody could have seen Hyun-jin Ryu becoming the best pitcher in baseball. Thus far, it’s a statement tough to argue against. Ryu has a 1.26 ERA and has allowed two runs or less in all 14 of his starts. He’s allowed no earned runs in six of his past eight starts. With one of the best offenses in baseball, the Dodgers rarely lose with Ryu on the mound and have gone 10-4 in his starts. Tonight, he faces the Rockies, one of the worst road offenses in baseball. Colorado is ranked 29th with a 73 wRC+ away from home. For the season, the Dodgers have won all four of their games played against the Rockies and dating back to last season, they have won nine straight over the division rival.

NEW YORK YANKEES VS. HOUSTON ASTROS

YANKEES TEAM TOTAL OVER 5.5 RUNS (-109)

It’s time. At last, the Yankees lineup is finally healthy. With Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton both back, this could be the first night we see the Yankees roll out the entire uber lineup at their disposal. Judge made his comeback last night, but they left D.J. LeMahieu, Aaron Hicks and Luke Voit out of the starting lineup. With American League home run leader Edwin Encarnacion recently added to the roster, no pitchers are safe. Earlier in the week, last year’s Cy Young winner Blake Snell had to pitch against the Yankees and allowed six runs. Tampa Bay was forced to yank him in the first inning after recording just one out. New York is going to do a ton of damage on offense going forward. Pitching against this lineup is unfair to opposing pitcher’s ERAs.

TEXAS RANGERS VS. CHICAGO WHITE SOX

RANGERS LEAD AFTER 5 INNINGS (-137)

This has been an odd season for pitching in baseball. A bunch of aces are nowhere near as consistent as they have been in previous years and it’s leading to some odd names at the top of leaderboards. Almost halfway through the season, Lance Lynn leads the American League in WAR. While he has a 4.16 ERA, his peripheral stats suggest he’s been much better. Lynn has a a 3.00 FIP and his ERA is starting to see positive regression. Lynn has pitched eight straight quality starts, keeping the Rangers in every game. This is great output when considering how hitter friendly Arlington Park is. Texas doesn’t have a great bullpen, leading me to lean toward picking them to lead after five innings when Lynn is still on the mound.

PARLAY OF THE DAY

LAD/NYY MONEYLINES (+118)

Ryu is on the mound for the Dodgers and the Yankees are trending up with Judge and Stanton both healthy. Consider this: the Yankees have the third-best record in baseball, lead the AL East by 4.5 games and have done it without their two best hitters. In theory, things should be smooth sailing going forward. The best record in baseball belongs to the Dodgers and they have the Cy Young favorite starting.
