Heaviest Pitcher Favorites
Matt Harvey vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (-145)- Happy Harvey Day! He pitches tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are really hitting well this season. They did just trade Mark Trumbo last night to Seattle, so that will make a difference. Harvey owns a 3.11 ERA on the season with 71 strikeouts in 66 innings pitched. The Diamondbacks are in the middle of the league in strikeouts, so don’t expect a huge K game from Harvey.
Steven Wright vs. Minnesota Twins (-150) – Oh boy. Can you tell today is a short slate of games? In some twisted way, Wright is the favorite pitcher on the entire day going up against the Twins. This takes place during the afternoon slate, so the pickings are certainly slim. His numbers aren’t that impressive with a 3.90 ERA and a 4.9 K/9. Also, he’s pitching in Fenway Park, a hitters park, and is giving up 1.6 home runs per start.
Dallas Keuchel vs. Baltimore Orioles (-145) – Back to reality now, Keuchel takes on the Orioles, again, during the afternoon slate. He’s been absolutely fantastic on the season, with a .176 and 60 strike outs in 81 innings pitched. He takes on a good Orioles offense who are in the middle of the league in just about all offensive categories. Last time out against Baltimore, Keuchel had a less than stellar start giving up four runs and striking out three in eight innings.
Top Overall Game Over/Unders
Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers (Ballpark at Arlington ) – 9 Over/Under – The battle of the average pitcher takes place in Texas today. Rodon was regarded as a top prospect, but hasn’t really showed it at the major league level. Gallardo has been decent this season, but his command has been all over the place this season. In his last start, he threw 104 pitches in just six innings, 63 of them for strikes.
Oakland A’s at Detroit Tigers (Comerica Park) –8.5 Over/Under – I’ll tell you who is really going to love this game, lefties. Both pitchers struggle in a big way when it comes to facing them. Hahn is letting lefties bat .351 against him while Greene is at .328. Hahn did shut the Tigers out his previous start against them.
Toughest Pitchers vs. Left Handed Batters
Dallas Keuchel vs. Baltimore Orioles- When it comes to lefties, Keuchel doesn’t let them touch him. They’re only batting an astounding .123 on the year against him. Keuchel doesn’t have a high K/9 however, at 6.6.
Erasmo Ramirez vs. Tampa Bay Rays – Ramirez hasn’t been having a good year, but he can at least get lefties out. They’re batting .179 against him while his K/9 sits at 7.7. He’s been extremely inconsistent all season, so just keep that in mind.
Toughest Pitchers vs. Right Handed Batters
Shane Greene vs. Oakland A’s – As I mentioned, he’s great against righties, but awful against lefties. For now, let’s talk about the good. Righties are only hitting .196 against him. His strikeouts wont get you many points, as that’s only at 5.8.
Dallas Keuchel vs. Baltimore Orioles – When Keuchel isn’t too busy getting lefties out, his other favorite activity is getting out righties. They’re only hitting .198 against him. A vast improvement against righties, but he’s still getting the job done.
Best Left/Right Matchups
Easiest Pitchers vs. Left Handed Batters
Carlos Frias vs. St. Louis Cardinals- Boy, Frias is almost throwing batting practice when it comes to lefties. They’re hitting 389 against him on the year! 389 folks! His K/9 is 5.6, which is not really helping his cause.
Jesse Hahn vs. Detroit Tigers- And here we go. Hahn has been having a REALLY tough time against lefties, as they’re hitting him to a tune of .351.
Easiest Pitchers vs. Right Handed Batters
Gio Gonzalez vs. Chicago Cubs – Gonzalez has been a disappointment this season, with an ERA at 4.73 on the season. Righties have been a big reason for his struggles, as they’re hitting .304 against him. His strikeout have been good though, at that’s at 8.5.
Carlos Rodon vs. Texas Rangers– Not exactly a team you want to be struggling against a particular type of pitcher, but Rodon is going to do it. Righties are hitting .288 off of him this season.
Joc Pederson ($4100) – What a fantastic price for someone who has 16 home runs on the season AND has been hitting leadoff. He’s 8 for his last 28 with five home runs, nine RBIs, and seven runs scored. He goes up against Michael Wacha tonight.
Billy Burns ($3500) – What a fantastic price for someone who is hitting over 330 on the season! Burns is really hot right now as he’s 12 for his last 27 with a home run, five RBIs, two stolen bases and seven runs scored. He faces Shane Greene this afternoon.
A.J. Pollock ($4100) – What a fantastic price for someone named A.J.! He’s 9 for his last 29 with three home runs, seven RBIs, two stolen bases and five runs scored. He takes on Matt Harvey tonight.
Best Batter vs. Pitcher Matchups
Brandon Moss vs. Chris Young – One thing to make clear, any Chris Young in the majors is not young, so don’t let that fo0l you. Against Young, Moss is 4-14 with three of those hits being home runs. He owns a 1.304 OPS against Young.
Dexter Fowler vs. Gio Gonzalez– Fowler has been leading off the Cubs, which gives these numbers a bit of a boost in my opinion. He’s 5-11 against Gonzalez with a home run and a 1.318 OPS. Fowler is also always a threat to steal if he gets on base.
Adam LaRoche vs. Yovani Gallardo – These two veterans have seen each other many times throughout their careers. LaRoche is 11-30 against him with two home runs, a .457 OBP and a 1.124 OPS.
One Pitcher To Build Lineups Around
Roenis Elias ($7300) – So we didn’t hit on Lester last night, I’m with you guys. Contrary to popular belief, I do indeed read my own Cheat Sheets. So you’d think I’d go with a safe pick to right my ways again right? NAH! I’m going with Elias tonight for a few reasons. Tampa is not a good offensive team. They’re 22nd in the league in runs scored, 21st in overall batting average and the splits against Elias are pretty even. Righties at 260 lefties at 263. Elias has a K/9 of 7 and the Rays do strikeout a lot. Add in the fact it’s in Seattle and I feel good about this pick. I simply give the suggestion, you don’t have to follow.
Superstar Worth Paying For…
Miguel Cabrera ($5100) – For this afternoon, I’m going with Cabrera against Jesse Hahn. Cabrera is hitting .338 against righties with eight home runs this season. With the slate as short as it is today, you’re going to have to take some obvious choices and some diamonds in the rough. Cabrera is one of those obvious picks.
Save Big Bucks By Drafting…
Billy Burns ($3500) – Burns is just getting it done right now and his price is low enough where you have to slot him in. If he continues this pace, that price tag is going to continue to sky rocket and you’ll remember the day I told you this and you will wished you would have listened.
