Pitchers

Mike Foltynewicz – ATL @ OAK– $7,400

Throughout the season, Foltynewicz has showcased great potential but he’s also struggled with consistency. However, he has been especially solid so far in June allowing two runs or fewer in four of his five starts. He was pounded in his other outing against the Nationals but still has a solid 3.49 ERA to go with his 2-0 record this month and has 27 strikeouts in 28.1 innings.

Foltynewicz has a high enough strikeout rate to give him a very high ceiling when he is at his best. He has 24+ DKFP in three of his last five starts including his most recent outing when he posted 26.5 DKFP against the Brewers. He has been better at home than on the road, but I still think he’s the top sub-$8K play on the mound tonight as he takes the mound in Oakland. He’s a boom-or-bust option since the A’s lineup packs plenty of power but also ranks third in the majors in strikeouts.

Mike Montgomery – CHC @ CIN – $6,800

The Cubs moved Mike Montgomery into their starting rotation earlier this month and the southpaw has made a strong case to stay in place as the team’s fifth starter. He is only 1-1 in his four starts but has a 3.00 ERA and a .218 batting average against. He has struck out 19 batters over 21 innings in those starts and has over 21 DKFP in each of his last two outings.

Tonight, Montgomery will face the Reds in Cincinnati in a tough test. He should be fully stretched out, though, after going six strong innings on Sunday against Miami. Montgomery had a season-high six strikeouts in that start and will look to continue that success tonight.

Hitters

Jake Marisnick – OF – HOU vs. NYY – $3,100

The Astros host the Yankees in one of the best series of the weekend, and check out Jake Marisnick if you want an affordable way to get into the productive Houston lineup. Marisnick comes into today with a .327 (18-55) average at Minute Maid Park where he has posted a 1.056 OPS. The 26-year-old is only hitting .197 on the road, but he’s definitely worth considering when he’s playing in Houston.

Over his last 10 games, Marisnick has been heating up averaging 8.3 FPPG by going 8-31 with three home runs, eight RBI and a .914 OPS.

Manny Piña – C – MIL vs. MIA – $3,300

Piña got a day off Wednesday and sandwiched that with a pair of impressive, 19 DKFP performances against the Reds. He went 4-7 with a pair of home runs in the Brewers’ series against the Reds and raised his average on the season to an impressive .291 with an .816 OPS. Four of his six home runs have come this month all in his last 10 games. Over that span, he is 9-35 and is averaging 8.5 FPPG thanks to a .933 OPS

Tonight, Piña and the Brewers are at home as they face the Marlins and starting pitcher Edinson Volquez. Piña has never faced Volquez, but he comes in swinging a hot enough bat to be a great value especially as part of a lineup that is scoring plenty of runs this season especially at home at Miller Park.

Logan Forsythe – 2B/3B – LAD @ SD – $3,100

The Dodgers are in San Diego to take on Clayton Richard and the Padres tonight making Forsythe a solid option to consider. The veteran infielder struggled after coming off the DL through mid-June but seems to have found his stride lately. Over his last 10 games, Forsythe is 10-39 (.256) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, five RBI and a home run. He is averaging 8.3 FPPG over that solid stretch of games and has hit safely in seven of those 10 contests.

Forsythe has continued to have success against southpaws this season going 12-40 (.300) against lefties with a .903 OPS.  He’s 2-2 in his career in limited meetings with Richard, but since he does play a big part in the Dodgers’ lineup against left-handed pitchers give him a look tonight especially if he’s batting near the top of the order.
