It’s Monday night, so we get a whole new set of matchups in tonight’s six-game Major League Baseball schedule as teams get new series underway. To help you find the right low-cost investments, check out today’s bargain bin picks featuring two pitchers under $8K and three hitters under $3.5K.

German Márquez – COL @ SF– $7,500

The Bargain Bin for pitchers doesn’t contain a lot of options for tonight since seven of the 12 starting pitchers are priced over $8K. There are a couple options worth a look, though, starting with Rockies starter German Márquez who is pitching at AT&T Park in San Francisco instead of the rarified air of Coors Field.

Márquez has allowed just one earned run in each of his last three starts and two earned runs or fewer in seven of his last eight. He has three ugly outings in which he has given up five or more runs, but he has been excellent in his other eight starts. His strikeout numbers can be hit-or-miss, but he does have a total of 54 strikeouts in his 59.2 innings.

Tonight, Márquez is in a good matchup against the Giants who average the second-fewest runs per game in the majors. He may not go huge, but he is relatively low-risk in this matchup given his recent form.

Jordan Montgomery – NYY @ CWS – $7,600

Montgomery is putting together a solid rookie season for the Yankees. He comes into tonight’s start in Chicago with a 5-4 record in his 13 starts with a 3.74 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts and as a result, he is 3-0 in June with a 2.96 ERA.

Tonight, Montgomery has a solid matchup against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field as he goes head-to-head with fellow-southpaw David Holmberg. Given the way the Yankees lineup is crushing the ball, Montgomery has a good shot at a win if he can turn in another quality start on the road.

Hitters

DJ LeMahieu – 2B – COL @ SF – $3,400

Sometimes the best bargain bin buys are unknown names or recent call-ups, and other times they’re more well-known names whose price has dropped. LeMahieu is definitely a well-known option for fantasy owners when he’s playing at Coors Field, but he’s worth a look tonight as he and the Rockies visit the Giants by the Bay and face Jeff Samardzija.

The reason he’s cheap is definitely not because he’s struggling. LeMahieu is 36-102 (.353) this month with a solid .814 OPS. Against the Giants this year, LeMahieu is a blistering 22-45 (.489) with a 1.082 OPS. Normally, he doesn’t bring a ton of power, but he hits for good average and in a prime spot in a productive lineup. Tonight, he’s in a good matchup as well as he faces Samardzija who he is 10-24 (.417) against in his career.

Melky Cabrera – OF – CWS vs NYY – $3,300

Another well-known name available at a good price tonight is the White Sox Melky Cabrera who connected on his eighth homer of the season yesterday against the Athletics. He is hitting .311 (28-90) in June with four doubles, two homers and a dozen RBI.

He has gone 20-73 (.274) against lefties like Yankees’ starter Jordan Montgomery, but he has produced more power when facing southpaws posting an .814 OPS. He also has favorable splits at home, and he should get some extra motivation tonight as he and the White Sox welcome in his former team from New York. In the past three seasons, Melk-man hit .300 against his former club with an .866 OPS.

Albert Almora Jr. – OF – CHC @ WSH – $3,000

While Joe Maddon continues to tinker with his lineup, Almora has gotten regular playing time lately and usually gets the nod against southpaws like tonight’s opposition Gio González. Almora has made the most of his expanded role and is 14-47 (.298) this month with a .812 OPS. Against lefties, he is 18-50 (.360) this year with a 1.008 OPS since two of his three homers on the year have come against lefties.

The 23-year-old got the day off yesterday, but I think he’ll be back in the lineup tonight as the Cubs hit DC. González has been effective lately, but I think Almora is a great deal at just $3K given his recent form and success against southpaws.
