Tonight’s MLB Arcade Mode slate features eight games, which is huge by Arcade standards. Let’s dive into the information for tonight’s slate. If you have any questions you can reach me on Twitter: @julianedlow.
Max Scherzer – WAS vs. CHC – $21,500 – The Cubs lineup is somewhat run down at the moment, projected for just 3.3 runs against Scherzer in D.C. Mad Max is by far the most reliable arm on this slate, going for 62 or more Arcade Mode points in six consecutive starts — a span in which he’s averaging 82.7 Arcade Mode points. What’s the common denominator in each of those starts? Scherzer had two or fewer earned runs along with 10 or more strikeouts.
Dan Straily – MIA vs. NYM – $12,500 – If you’re fading Scherzer on this slate, then your pitcher is already likely going to be low owned. Straily has great value going up against a Mets team projected for just a shade above four runs. Meanwhile, Straily’s gone for 40 or more Arcade Mode points in five of his last nine starts, including a 54.8 average in his last two outings. The recent surge has been fueled by 14 strikeouts over that span. In his lone start against the Mets this season, Straily fanned five in 5.1 innings without allowing a hit (or a run) despite five walks.
Elvis Andrus – TEX vs. CLE – $8,000 – Andrus is on an eight-game hit streak that includes 13 total hits, two home runs (both last night) and three stolen bases. Averaging 42 Arcade Mode points in that eight-game stretch, Andrus is yet to even accomplish the HR/SB bonus, so his upside is even higher than he’s shown despite his hot play. He’ll bat third tonight for the Rangers against struggling RHP Mike Clevenger.
Giancarlo Stanton – MIA vs. NYM – $8,000 – Stanton had a nice weekend series against the Cubs, homering in two of his last three games. Tonight he’ll face RHP Robert Gsellman, who (despite a small sample size) he’s owned in the past — 5-for-7 with a home run and a walk. Gsellman has a 7.71 road ERA this season and is getting hit by RHB for an average of .322.
Jose Ramirez – CLE vs. TEX – $8,500 – Ramirez has been Mr. Consistent lately, now averaging 34 Arcade Mode points over his last 10. The switch-hitter has a hit in 13 of his last 14 games, totaling 30 hits over that span, including 11 doubles, two triples and four homers. That machine-like production is what makes him perhaps the safest play in Arcade Mode.
Justin Smoak – TOR vs. BAL – $7,500 – Smoak Monster has been crushing this season, particularly against RHP — hitting 16 of his 20 home runs against them. He’ll face RHP Kevin Gausman tonight in Toronto, a pitcher he’s taken deep in the past. Smoke feels like an awesome source of power at a discount compared to the top bats on this large slate.
