Cody Bellinger

The Dodgers have everything working in their favor entering 2020, they just need the season to actually begin. After losing in the World Series in 2017 and 2018, the Dodgers won a franchise record 106 games in 2019, but lost to the eventual champion Nationals. The Dodgers are bitter about their World Series losses, and for obvious reasons, given the news of the Astros’ sign stealing scandal that’s come out this offseason. Now Los Angeles is all-in on 2020, adding Mookie Betts to an already ridiculously dangerous lineup. David Price also slides into a stacked rotation. This squad deserves to be the odds on favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the World Series, and a whopping -715 to finish atop the NL West on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Is Cody Bellinger a Top-3 pick in fantasy this season?

Key Departures:

Hyun-Jin Ryu, SP; Alex Verdugo, OF; Kenta Maeda SP

Key Acquisitions:

Mookie Betts, OF; David Price, SP; Alex Wood, SP; Jimmy Nelson, SP; Blake Treinen, RP

2020 Fantasy MVP

Cody Bellinger, 1B/OF

All the attention right now is on the 2018 AL MVP — Mookie Betts. While he should provide a spectacular boost at the top of this lineup, the most valuable piece should remain the 2019 NL MVP — Cody Bellinger. Bellinger put together a ridiculous .305/.406/.629 slash line in 2020, and we have no reason to believe he won’t continue to dominate in 2020. Adding Mookie to the top of the order should only give the slugger more chances to knock in more runs. Bellinger is my second-ranked fantasy player overall, just behind Mike Trout.

2020 Fantasy LVP

Clayton Kershaw, SP

I don’t want to pick an LVP on the Dodgers, but if I have to, it’s Kershaw. The 31-year-old has shown some signs of regression, and there’s a chance it continues in 2020. His 3.03 ERA in 2019 was the highest since his rookie season back in 2008, which is wild to say, but it does mean he could be overvalued. Walker Buehler is slowly becoming the ace of this staff. That doesn’t make Kershaw worse, it just makes the lesser known name the more valuable fantasy play.

2020 Breakout Player

David Price, SP

So I like Buehler more than Kershaw, but I’m also leaving the door open that Kershaw could put up the third-best numbers on his own rotation this season. Price is a player that goes beyond the numbers. He had some terrible stretches in Boston, but also some dominant stretches — including a near World Series MVP award. At his ceiling, Price can be as good as almost any pitcher in the game. Take all the pressure and media from the Boston market out of the equation. The market in Los Angeles is perfect for Price to just lurk behind the scenes and pitch really, really well. I’m looking for Price to be just as valuable as Betts in 2020.

Final Thoughts:

It’s no surprise that a team this heavily favored in its division, and the World Series favorite, is going to be stacked with fantasy options. This roster probably has five or more players that would be fantasy MVPs on plenty of other teams, and looking for a fantasy LVP is really nitpicking. We’ll be stacking the Dodgers plenty in 2020, and the pitching options won’t be shabby either.
