We’re in the last week of the MLB regular season, and there aren’t many good betting angles to take on Wednesday’s card. There are a couple of teams battling for their wild card lives that we can look at parlaying, otherwise we’ll shift our focus to postseason futures.

PARLAY OF THE DAY
NYM/CLE ML (-157)
The Mets have to win out just to have a shot at making the NL Wild Card and are at home facing the Marlins with Jacob deGrom on the mound. As -435 favorites, this is a spot we can count on them. Meanwhile, the Indians are -305 against the White Sox with Shane Bieber on the mound. The Indians are fighting for the final AL Wild Card spot but sit on the outside looking in. Even getting -157 here is a good price, considering the opposition has zero motivation in both cases. Outside of targeting must-win games for teams playing against competition that already hasbeen eliminated from the postseason, it’s tough to get a good feel on these final MLB games.
NAME THE FINALISTS
Astros vs. Dodgers (+250)/Yankees vs. Dodgers (+450)
Last week’s article included making a play on the Dodgers to win the NL at -112, which is still available and still my favorite MLB postseason future play. The NL has far less competition than the AL, and the Dodgers are built for playoff success. They rank atop the NL in both offense and pitching and should coast to a third straight Fall Classic.
If we want to expand upon that play, we can look at World Series matchups. Houston is even more heavily favored to win the AL at -118 than the Dodgers are in the NL. The Astros are going to be a tough out, but the Yankees provide legitimate competition. If we’re comfortable penciling that in as the ALCS (both teams still are battling for home field in the AL), we can take both of these plays at heavy plus money and profit no matter which team Los Angeles faces. You won’t want to go too heavy on either if you already bet the Dodgers to win the NL, but the payouts here are intriguing.
WORLD SERIES WINNER
New York Yankees (+400)
It’s a tough road for the Yanks to win it all, but they have the tools. The pitching isn’t as good as Houston, which is why we get this steep underdog price, but New York’s offense is better than both Houston’s and Los Angeles’.
I like putting some money down on the Yankees right now and seeing where things go. If they ever take a lead against Houston in the ALCS, there should be an excellent hedging opportunity, or you could choose to ride it out. Remember, this was the World Series favorite entering the 2019 season.
