Rafael Nadal

Some of the biggest names in tennis enter the Wimbledon courts on Tuesday, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Ashleigh Barty, the No. 1 Women’s player. We look at the players to target from Tuesday’s Wimbledon slate.

Men’s Targets

Roger Federer ($11,300)

The legend of Federer gained solid ground on these courts all those years back, where a young man’s talent was evidenced through the charisma of his headband and a sensational single-hand backhand. The headband has stayed constant and the backhand has only improved. Federer’s love for Wimbledon is too strong for him not to respect the opponent and the occasion. Expect a strong Federer at the top of his game.

Rafael Nadal ($11,100)

This is not his favorite surface. It isn’t that he isn’t great on grass, it’s just that Nadal is too good on clay. But like Federer, Nadal has had his moments in Wimbledon history, including an epic semi-final last year against Novak Djokovic. Federer and Nadal are priced at a combined $22,400, worth the price in this slate.

Women’s Targets

Ashleigh Barty ($10,900)

Tennis is not the only reason for Barty’s exceptional hand-eye coordination. Barty, at one point, was a professional cricket player in the Women’s Big Bash League, a domestic cricket competition in Australia. Now, she’s the world’s best women’s tennis player. She comes into Wimbledon on the back of two consecutive titles: the French Open, followed by a grass-court win in Birmingham last week.

Serena Williams ($10,800)

Serena Williams will always be part of romantic love stories with the Wimbledon courts. Her sister Venus Williams might not be the same force she once was, but Serena still is, a testament to her sheer will and strength. Serena didn’t play in the lead-up to Wimbledon, but her experience should see her through comfortably.

Men’s Value Picks

Tomas Berdych ($6,300)

Berdych’s only preparation for Wimbledon after a three-month layoff was two tough matches at the Boodles Exhibition last week. He lost both those matches, against Roberto Bautista-Agut and Denis Shapovalov. However, Berdych has years of experience to call on against the relative inexperience of Taylor Fritz. This might be a long duel into the fifth set, with Berdych’s consistency taking him through.

Other value options: Fabio Fognini ($6,700)

Women’s Value Picks

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova ($4,800)

The odds are stacked well against Pavlyuchenkova in this one. But as the first day showed, favorites on paper doesn’t count for much. Armed with a big serve that should aid her on grass, Pavlyuchenkova certainly has the propensity and the game to upset Belinda Bencic. This might just be worth the punt, especially considering you’d want both Federer and Nadal in this slate.

Other value options: Laura Siegemund ($7,200)
