Though many teams are shut down during the FIFA international fixture window, there are four MLS games on tap Saturday night. DraftKings has over $7,500 in cash prizes to dole out today, so let’s take a look at the top targets for today’s short slate. There are numerous absences due to international duty, suspension and injury. It is vital to monitor starting lineups to ensure you aren’t caught with any inactive players in your lineups. As always, I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@DraftKicks) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff. Good luck!
Bobby Shuttleworth – $5,400 – New England England Revolution – The Revs net minder has consecutive clean sheets and has a fine matchup today. The New England Revolution are heavy favorites at home against an Orlando City attack that has been held scoreless in three straight road games and will be missing leading scorers Kaka and Cyle Larin, who have combined for 20 of Orlando City’s 29 goals on the year.
David Bingham – $5,300 – San Jose Earthquakes – Bingham will be a popular play in net, having strung together four consecutive clean sheet victories. He has another good matchup at home against a Philadelphia Union attack that will be missing playmaker Cristian Maidana due to suspension.
Others to Consider – Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders; $5,200), Evan Bush (Montreal Impact; $4,800), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire; $4,400)
Chris Tierney – $6,200 – New England Revolution – Tierney swung in seven crosses last game and is the top crossing defender on the board. You’ll have to pay up for him, but he’s backed up his high price tag with three straight double-digit outings.
Tyrone Mears – $5,400 – Seattle Sounders – Mears has two or more crosses in eight straight games. With Marco Pappa out on international duty, Mears could be tasked with serving in set pieces.
Ambroise Oyongo – $5,200 – Montreal Impact – With so many international absences, it’s going to be tricky to roster reliable attacking backs. Though Oyongo hasn’t been as productive over his last two games, he did swing in nine crosses just three games ago – highlighting the upside Oyongo possesses when he joins in on the attack. Montreal need a big result tonight, and i’m looking for Oyongo to play a part.
Others to Consider – Andrew Farrell (New England Revolution; $3,600), Shaun Francis (San Jose Earthquakes; $4,200), Fabinho (Philadelphia Union; $4,600)
Lee Nguyen – $9,000 – New England Revolution – Nguyen averaged 12 DraftKings points per game in the month of August. Prior to being held scoreless last weekend, Nguyen had a string of five games straight with a goal or an assist. I’m expecting the Revs to take advantage of a shorthanded Orlando City squad, with Nguyen pulling the strings.
Ignacio Piatti – $8,500 – Montreal Impact – The Argentine looks all-set to return to the lineup after missing out with injury over the last few weeks. His return couldn’t come at a better time, as the Impact look to make a push for a playoff spot. Prior to his absence, Piatti was contributing in all statistical categories across the board. He has a strong upside with not many go-to midfielders on today’s board. Keep an eye on the starting lineup prior to locking Piatti in.
Shea Salinas – $6,200 – San Jose Earthquakes – Salinas has been a big part of the San Jose Earthquakes’ four-game winning streak. The left midfielder has a goal in back-to-back games and has double-digit fantasy points in his last three outings.
Others to Consider – Matias Perez Garcia (San Jose Earthquakes; $7,800), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC; $7,000), Tranquillo Barnetta (Philadelphia Union; $5,500)
Obafemi Martins – $10,200 – Seattle Sounders – Martins scored again in Seattle’s 2-1 win over Portland on Sunday. He now has a goal in three consecutive home outings and is at the top of my forward targets with counterpart Sebastian Giovinco ($13,900) unlikely to play.
Chris Wondolowski – $9,200 – San Jose Earthquakes – Wondo has stepped it up of late, with three goals over his last three games. He’s had at least two shots in five straight games and will be leaned on heavily with San Jose making a playoff push.
Dominic Oduro – $8,300 – Montreal Impact – With all eyes on Didier Drogba, it’s been Dominic Oduro sparking the Montreal Impact attack. The Birdman had three goals on 16 shots in the month of August. Drogba could return from a two-game absence today, which I think strengthens Oduro’s fantasy appeal with all the attention surrounding Drogba.
Others to Consider – Charlie Davies (New England Revolution; $8,700), Quincy Amarikwa (San Jose Earthquakes; $7,000), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders; $10,000)
Herculez Gomez – $3,500 – Toronto FC – Gomez has been inactive the last two games, but could be in-line to shift back into the attack today with Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco likely to miss out. At only $3,500, he’s worth looking for once the TFC starting XI drops to free up bankroll to use on higher priced stars.
Kennedy Igboananike – $6,300 – Chicago Fire – Igboananike has become the focal point in the Chicago Fire attack, bagging four goals in his last four games. He’s hit 25+ in two of those four and will be relied upon once again tonight with Chicago fighting for their playoff lives.
