DraftKings announced some major changes to their soccer product today, just in time for MLS Cup Playoffs – Knockout Round action tonight! Get familiar with the new setup and scoring format here before building your lineups. Also, be sure to check starting lineups to ensure your players are active – I will be tweeting them out (@DraftKicks) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff. Good luck tonight!

Adam Larsen Kwarasey – $4,100 – Portland Timbers – Sporting KC have been shutout twice and have scored just once in their last three road games. Despite the fact that the lone goal came at Portland earlier this month, Kwarasey is the safest play on the board at GK.

Evan Bush – $4,000 – Montreal Impact – Made four saves en route to a win and 13 points against Toronto on Sunday. Can he shut Giovinco out again in tonight’s rematch?

Others to Consider – Tim Melia (Sporting KC; $3,500), Chris Konopka (Toronto FC; $3,600)

Ambroise Oyongo – $3,200 – Montreal Impact – There aren’t many, if any, top options at defender tonight. Per usual, i’ll default to sticking with outside backs who have crossing upside. Oyongo hasn’t been crossing at the rate he was earlier in the year, but i’m hoping that changes tonight’s in a high-profile knockout game.

Alvas Powell – $3,900 – Portland Timbers  – When these two met earlier in the month Powell had 3 crosses, 1 shot and 1 foul drawn. I’m looking for similar production from the Jamaican tonight, and hoping for more considering what’s at stake.

Chance Myers – $2,800 – Sporting KC – Myers has two shots in back-to-back games. He’s joining in on the attack more now that he’s healthy again, and if SKC are playing catchup at the end of the game Myers is the type of defender that will start swinging in multiple crosses to try and find a late equalizer.

Others to Consider – Laurent Ciman (Montreal Impact; $3,000), Kevin Ellis (Sporting KC; $2,700), Jack Jewsbury (Portland Timbers; $3,200)

Diego Valeri – $7,300 – Portland Timbers – Valeri returns from suspension tonight and should play a major role in the outcome of the game. He had 4 shots and 6 crosses against KC earlier this month and comes into tonight with fresh legs.

Ignacio Piatti – $5,800 – Montreal Impact – The Argentine has hit double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games and comes at a nice discount compared to Valeri and Feilhaber. He had a pair of assists when these teams met just four days ago.

Darlington Nagbe  – $4,800 – Portland Timbers – Nagbe comes in HOT with 3 goals and 1 assist in his last two games. I love his price here and would’nt be surprised if he is one of the highest owned players tonight.

Others to Consider – Benny Feilhaber (Sporting KC; $6,700), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC; $5,600), Rodney Wallace (Portland Timbers; $3,700)

Sebastian Giovinco – $9,900 – Toronto FC – Giovinco’s fantasy output has been a bit of a letdown over his last three games, which says a lot for his sky-high ceiling considering he’s had 1 goal, 1 assist, 7 shots, 11 crosses and 8 fouls drawn over that span. He’s been my favorite player to watch, and roster, this season and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does on the big stage.

Didier Drogba – $8,000 – Montreal Impact – Drogba has 9 goals and an eye-popping 159 pts in his last 5 home games, including his 37-pt performance on Sunday against the same Toronto FC team he’ll face tonight. He could outshine his counterpart, Giovinco, once again tonight at nearly $2K less.

Fanendo Adi – $6,900 – Portland Timbers – Adi has a goal in three straight games, scoring 4 times and assisting once. He’s been a big spark for the Timbers in the lead-up to the playoffs and will be asked to shoulder the scoring load again tonight if they are to advance.

Others to Consider – Dom Dwyer (Sporting KC; $7,000), Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC; $5,700), Krisztian Nemeth (Sporting Kansas City; $6,000)

Utility Appeal

Jorge Villafana – $3,100 – Portland Timbers –  Villafana lines up at Left Back but is listed as a midfielder on DraftKings. Regardless of positioning, he’s been productive lately with 1 goal, 2 assists and 33 pts in last 2 games. You just won’t get any Clean Sheet bonuses if the Timbers keep SKC off the board.

Graham Zusi – $5,200 – Sporting Kansas City – Zusi has a combined 17 crosses over the last three games, and should benefit nicely from the new scoring changes as he takes the majority of KC’s corner kicks and set-pieces.
