We’ve reached the Conference Semi-Finals of the 2015 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, and DraftKings has some big prizes up for grabs today. Beat ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman for a chance to win a VIP trip for two to the MLS Cup!
There were some major changes to the DraftKings soccer product announced last week, so familiarize yourself with the new roster setup and scoring format before building your lineups. Be sure to check starting lineups to ensure your players are active — I will be posting them to Twitter (@DraftKicks) as they are released — usually an hour before kickoff.
Adam Kwarasey – $4,100 – Portland Timbers – If only we got fantasy points for PK shootouts! Kwarasey made several saves and ended up scoring the game-winning PK in an epic Knockout Round shootout win over Sporting KC on Wednesday. The Ghanaian GK has been solid at home all year and is in play once again today against a Whitecaps attack that has been shutout in three of their last four road games – having scored just once on the road dating back to mid-August.
Bill Hamid – $3,400 – D.C. United – Hamid was instrumental in leading D.C. to a win over the New England Revolution in the Knockout Round midweek. He’s made 3+ saves in 3 straight games and has helped United to three straight wins at home. He’ll have to be on his game once more to keep BWP and the Red Bulls at bay today.
Others to Consider – Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas; $3,600), Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders; $3,800), Evan Bush (Montreal Impact; $3,600)
Harrison Afful – $4,000 – Columbus Crew – Afful has been a crossing machine since joining the Crew midseason. Over the last three games he’s racked up one assist, 14 crosses and 2 clean sheets. I’ll continue to find a way to include Afful and his double-digit floor on my back line.
Donny Toia – $2,900 – Montreal Impact – It was a small sample size but it looks as though Toia could benefit from the new scoring system that awards points for tackles won and passes intercepted. Toia won six tackles against Toronto FC and finished the night at 10.5 points on Thursday.
Kemar Lawrence – $3,700 – New York Red Bulls – Lawrence is another player who should benefit from the added scoring categories. He’s an athletic outside back and has the ability to contribute on both sides of the ball with tackles won, interceptions and crosses. He too has double-digit upside every time he hits the field.
Others to Consider – Alvas Powell (Portland Timbers; $3,000), Ambroise Oyongo (Montreal Impact; $2,700), Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew; $3,200)
Diego Valeri – $7,300 – Portland Timbers – It was vintage Valeri in Portland’s win on Thursday – whipping in a whopping 15 crosses on the night! DK’s new soccer stat provider (OPTA) gives Valeri’s game a significant boost, evident of his 27-point performance against Sporting KC.
Ignacio Piatti – $5,800 – Montreal Impact – Despite superstar Didier Drogba getting all the attention, it was Piatti who shined the brightest in Montreal’s midweek trouncing of Toronto. He had 1 goal, 1 assist, 8 shots and 28 points and comes a very reasonable price point.
Clint Dempsey – $7,400 – Seattle Sounders – Previously listed as a forward, Dempsey is now available to roster at the Midfield slot on DraftKings. Deuce has come alive with 3 goals and 46 points over his last two games.
Others to Consider – Mauro Diaz (FC Dallas; $7,000), Sacha Kljestan (New York Red Bulls; $7,100), Chris Pontius (D.C. United; $4,400)
Didier Drogba – $7,900 – Montreal Impact – Drogba is simply unstoppable right now, with 10 goals and 179.5 pts in his last six home games. Those are epic numbers and he’ll have ample opportunity to add to those totals today.
Fabian Espindola – $7,200 – D.C. United – The Argentine has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games at RFK. Espindola will be eager to take it to his former club and is another player who will benefit from OPTA stats.
Kei Kamara – $8,400 – Columbus Crew – The Golden Boot runner-up returns from suspension today and should be firing on all cylinders. Kamara was given a questionable yellow card that kept him out of the season finale, effectively squashing any chance for him to leap Giovinco for the Golden Boot. Look for a goal-hungry Kei to come out fired up today.
Others to Consider – Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders; $7,700), Bradley Wright-Phillips (New York Red Bulls; $8,700), Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas; $6,800)
Lucas Melano – $4,900 – Portland Timbers – Melano has quietly produced 2 assists in Portland’s last three games and is contributing across the board. He finished with 13 points on Thursday despite no goals or assists.
Andreas Ivanschitz – $3,800 – Seattle Sounders – By OPTA scoring Ivanschitz had 12 crosses, 1 assist and 21 DK points against the Galaxy midweek. He’s become an integral part of the Seattle attack and comes at a favorable price.
