Amidst the granddaddy of one of the most anticipated Saturday’s in sports history – DraftKings has MLS fans covered with over $7.5k guaranteed in cash prizes up for grabs! With many teams rotating their lineups recently, it is crucial to ensure you have players who are starting in your lineup. I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff. Here are some players I am targeting to help pad my DraftKings account:
Jaime Penedo – $5,700 – LA Galaxy – The MLS schedule makers did DFS players a favor as the Galaxy welcome a fatigued Colorado Rapids squad to town. Colorado traveled to New York and battled the Red Bulls to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, and then turned right around to make the cross country trek for a game at Los Angeles on Saturday. Penedo is the priciest goalkeeper on the board, for good reason. He’s allowed no more than one goal in each home game, and has the best chance at a clean sheet + win tonight.
Bobby Shuttleworth – $4,900 – New England Revolution – Shuttleworth has been a big part of the recent Revs resurgence. He allowed just one goal over four games in April, and has yet to allow a goal at home in 2015. While the Red Bulls boast some big-name attackers, I expect Shuttleworth and the Revs to continue their fine run of form.
Others to Consider – Bill Hamid (D.C. United; $4,400), Adam Kwarasey (Portland Timbers; $5,200), Joe Bendik (Toronto FC, $4,700)
Chris Tierney – $4,700 – New England Revolution – I’ll be targeting Tierney once again after his 23 point outing last weekend. The versatile outside back showed his ability to contribute across the board – notching a goal amongst numerous shots, crosses and to top it all off earned a clean sheet.
Waylon Francis – $4,000 – Columbus Crew – Lost in the shadow of Hernan Grana, Francis provided assist in last weekend’s thumping of Philadelphia. Both wide backs are worth consideration, as both like to get forward to swing balls into the box for big target Kei Kamara. Francis has posted double-digit DraftKings numbers in back-to-back games now, and while I am not endorsing a Crew clean sheet on the road at DC, I believe Francis will pay his salary off with a handful of crosses and fouls drawn.
Jack Jewsbury – $3,700 – Portland Timbers – The defender turned midfielder has posted 7 and 8 DK points in his last two outings, and seems to be the Timbers go-to guy on set pieces. With the potential to earn both attacking and defensive fantasy points, I will be targeting Jewsbury at a very reasonable price.
Others to Consider – London Woodberry (New England Revolution; $3,600), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy; $4,900), Alvas Powell (Portland Timbers; $4,0oo)
Lee Nguyen – $7,600 – New England Revolution – Nguyen posted 12 points in his last outing – without scoring a goal or adding an assist. He’s now scored 10+ DraftKings points in 4 of his last 5 outings and is a reliable Midfield option to build your team around.
Pedro Morales – $8,200 – Vancouver Whitecaps – It didn’t take long for Morales to open the scoring last weekend, with a goal in the 2nd minute en route to a 24-point fantasy performance. Morales contributes in all categories, and will be up for a big rivalry game versus Portland tonight.
Christian Maidana – $6,400 – Philadelphia Union – Maidana has quietly strung together some solid performances since recently returning from injury. He’s an excellent crosser of the ball and also stands over the majority of the Union set pieces. With Philly desperate for a win, I expect Maidana will spark the attack this afternoon.
Others to Consider – Stefan Ishizaki (LA Galaxy; $7,200), Dillon Powers (Colorado Rapids; $6,400), Chris Pontius (DC United; $6,600), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers; $6,300)
Sebastian Giovinco – $9,000 – Toronto FC – Perhaps one of the most reliable options on the board, Giovinco has surpassed the 10 point threshold in every MLS game this season. He chimed in with an assist in last week and will look to keep it going today versus a suspect Philadelphia defense.
Fabian Espindola – $6,400 – DC United – Though he failed to score, Espindola was a force to be reckoned with in his first game back from serving a six-match ban. He is a scrappy forward who will do the dirty work to get on the score sheet. It won’t be long before we see Espindola back on the score sheet, and you can get him at a very generous price today.
Charlie Davies – $7,100 – New England Revolution – With the Revolution attack firing on all cylinders, Davies has now scored a goal in consecutive games. He’s logged back-to-back 17 point DraftKings outings and will be eager to keep his goal streak going today versus local rival NY Red Bulls.
Others to Consider – Kei Kamara (Columbus Crew; $9,600) Octavio Rivero (Vancouver Whitecaps; $9,500), Chris Rolfe (DC United; $7,100), Federico Higuain (Columbus Crew; $7,300), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy; $7,600)
Juan Agudelo – $7,200 – New England Revolution – The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder busted out with a 27-point performance last weekend. With the Revs looking spry in the attack, Agudelo should have ample opportunity to contribute against his former team.
Alan Gordon – $5,800 – LA Galaxy – Robbie Keane is set to miss out once again, which means the big LA target forward should have another opportunity to produce. With a lack of scoring options, I expect the Galaxy to target Gordon early and often. He’ll look to convert his chances today against a fatigued Colorado back line.
