A three-game “West Coast Wednesday” slate kicks off a busy two weeks of MLS action. DraftKings has over $10K in guaranteed MLS contests posted through Sunday, so let’s look at some players to target to help earn a share of the prizes. Be sure to monitor starting lineups, as the teams playing tonight have a quick turnaround and play another game this weekend – meaning squad rotation is inevitable. I will be posting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as soon as they are released – usually an hour before kickoff.

Wednesday’s Contests

$800 MLS Striker – $3 entry

Stefan Frei – $6,000 – Seattle Sounders – The Seattle netminder leads the league in both saves and clean sheets, and has posted consecutive shutouts in his last two games.  Frei is at home and is facing a retooled Colorado attack that has scored no more than one goal in each of their last six matches.

Adam Kwarasey – $4,800 – Portland Timbers – Portland welcomes a D.C. United team that is in the midst of a brutally busy schedule. Kwarasey made five saves in a 10 point performance at Toronto over the weekend, and I like his matchup tonight against a fatigued United.

Others to Consider – Jaime Penedo (LA Galaxy; $5,600),  Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake; $4,400)

Tyrone Mears – $5,800 – Seattle Sounders – Mears has averaged 8.3 points per game over his last three outings. He’s a good crosser of the ball and has a good chance at earning a clean sheet tonight as well.

Jack Jewsbury – $3,800 – Portland Timbers  – As noted above, D.C. may be fielding a weaker team tonight given their rigorous schedule taking a toll. He’s eligible to earn defensive points, even though Jewsbury will likely be playing as a midfielder tonight – which should lead to some opportunities to contribute in the Timbers attack.

Omar Gonzalez – $5,500 – LA Galaxy – The Galaxy center back has earned a clean sheet in two of his last three outings, including a scoreless draw three weeks ago against the same Real Salt Lake team he faces tonight. The US Men’s National Team defender is always a threat on set pieces, where LA looks to target the big 6-foot-5 defender.

Others to Consider – Alvas Powell (Portland Timbers; $4,300), Dan Gargan (LA Galaxy; $5,200), Taylor Kemp (D.C. United; $4,200)

Javier Morales – $7,500 – Real Salt Lake  The RSL playmaker returned to action over the weekend, coming off the bench for a 28 minute cameo. He’s one of the best creative midfielders in the league, and if given the start, Morales will be hard to pass on at just $7,500.

Marco Pappa – $7,000 – Seattle Sounders – Pappa had a disappointing outing over the weekend against Sporting KC, picking up a measly one point for a cross along the way. I expect a bounce back game at home tonight, where Pappa could shoulder even more of the load in the attack with midfield partner Gonzalo Pineda missing out. Prior to the letdown game on Saturday, Pappa hit 10+ DraftKings points in four consecutive games.

Stefan Ishizaki – $8,200 – LA Galaxy All eyes will be on the return of star striker Robbie Keane tonight, which suits Ishizaki’s game just fine. With the attention elsewhere, more space should open up for the Swedish winger to trouble the Salt Lake defense and cross dangerous balls into the box – an easy way for your team to collect a DK point for every cross.

Others to Consider – Dillon Powers (Colorado Rapids; $7,700), Lamar Neagle (Seattle Sounders; $6,700), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers; $6,300)

Clint Dempsey – $10,900 – Seattle Sounders -He’s the most expensive player on the board, and it’s for good reason. Prior to being held scoreless on Saturday, Dempsey posted a goal or an assist in 10 consecutive MLS regular-season matches dating back to 2014! That type of consistency makes “Deuce” my top target tonight.

Obafemi Martins – $9,800 – Seattle Sounders – Martins looks ready to return to action after being held out the past couple of games due to injury. In limited action, the speedy Nigerian is still among the league’s leading goal scorers. It is worth monitoring his status leading up to lineup lock as he could be a game changer if he gets the start tonight.

Robbie Keane – $9,600 – LA Galaxy – The 2014 MVP made an immediate impact in his return to action, coming off the bench to provide the game-winning assist in the Galaxy’s dramatic 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. Keane’s minutes may be monitored while he works his way back to full fitness, but the lethal goalscorer is always a target anytime he takes the field.

Others to Consider –  Fanendo Adi (Portland Timbers; $7,500), Alvaro Saborio (Real Salt Lake; $7,900), Gabriel Torres (Colorado Rapids; $6,300), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy; $8,700)

Flex Appeal

Lucas Solignac  – $3,500 – Colorado Rapids – In his first start since joining the Rapids, Solignac was active throughout the full 90 minute contest- collecting 8 points through two shots on goal and three crosses. The Rapids face a stiff challenge tonight at Seattle, but priced at just $3,500 Solignac is a great option if you’re looking to free up cap space for the high-priced targets.

Rodney Wallace – $5,800 – Portland Timbers – The Timbers winger put up seven points in just 60 minutes over the weekend. With a weakened D.C. United coming to town, I like Wallace’s chances to take advantage and exploit the wings this evening. With Portland’s attacking cog in Diego Valeri set to miss out, Wallace should see even more opportunity to contribute a goal tonight.
