Happy Memorial Day weekend, MLS fans! DraftKings has over $4K in cash prizes to award today, so let’s look at some of the top targets that will help you take home a share of the cash. Keep an eye on starting lineups as they are released to be sure your players aren’t on the bench prior to roster lock. I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as soon as they are released – usually an hour before kickoff. Here are some players I am targeting today:

Saturday’s Contests

$1K MLS Striker – $3 entry

$1.5K MLS Equalizer – $27 entry

Nick Rimando – $5,600 – Real Salt Lake – A home game against a New York City FC squad that is winless in nine straight games makes Rimando my top target on Saturday. Rimando burned his fantasy owners last weekend, conceding four goals to the Montreal Impact. I expect a bounce back effort from RSL tonight, and have no problem paying up for Major League Soccer’s all-time shutout leader.

Stefan Frei – $5,400 – Seattle Sounders – The Sounders goalkeeper earned a clean sheet and a win en route to a 20 fantasy point performance on the road last weekend. This was the third time Frei has posted 20+ DraftKings points in his last five outings. With a Sporting KC team that just played three days ago coming to town, I like Frei’s chances to turn in another big performance.

Others to Consider – Chris Konopka (Toronto FC; $5,200),  Clint Irwin (Colorado Rapids; $4,500), Bobby Shuttleworth (New England Revolution; $5,800)

Chris Tierney – $6,200 – New England Revolution – He’s the priciest defender on the board, and it’s for a good reason. Tierney is heavily involved in the Revs attack, regularly swinging crosses into the box and taking the majority of corner kicks. He came off the bench last game, but it was likely just to keep him fresh for today’s game at home. Tierney should feature today in a favorable match against DC United.

Jamison Olave – $5,000 – Real Salt Lake  – Of all the RSL defenders, I like Demar Phillips the most but he is listed as a Midfielder on DraftKings today, therefore making him ineligible to earn Clean Sheet points. However, on a night where Salt Lake have a good chance at a Clean Sheet, I am eying center back Jamison Olave. The big Columbian is a target on all free kicks and corner kicks, managing to get off two shots in two of his last three games.

Laurent Ciman – $4,200 – Montreal Impact – The Belgian defender scored the opening goal in Montreal’s 4-2 win against Salt Lake last weekend. Ciman moves forward into the attack on all Impact set pieces, having put a shot on goal in four consecutive games now. While i’m not high on Montreal earning a clean sheet today, i’ll take my chances with a defender that has a decent chance to contribute a goal.

Others to Consider – London Woodberry (New England Revolution; $5,200), Taylor Kemp (DC United; $4,000), Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders; $4,000), Drew Moor (Colorado Rapids; $3,000)

Lee Nguyen – $8,500 – New England Revolution  After a breakout 2014 campaign, Nguyen has been relatively quiet this season. Because of his slow start, he could fly under the radar today. He put up 10 points against Toronto last weekend, without scoring a goal or tallying assist. Knowing what Nguyen is capable of doing, I’m counting on him to show up with a big outing very soon.

Marco Pappa – $6,600 – Seattle Sounders – The Guatemalan playmaker continues to spark the Sounders attack, tallying an assist for the third straight match last weekend. Pappa’s ability to contribute across the board with crosses, fouls drawn and shots further solidifies Pappa as a target in the midfield.

Mauro Diaz – $8,200 – FC Dallas – Diaz has been on fire since returning from injury. He had a “quiet” outing last weekend with eight fantasy points after hitting 16+ in three straight. Considering the roll he’s been on, Diaz is worth targeting with as high floor/high ceiling midfielder.

Others to Consider – Pedro Morales (Vancouver Whitecaps; $8,600), Dillon Powers (Colorado Rapids; $7,100), Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers; $6,700), Ignacio Piatti (Montreal Impact; $7,400)

Sebastian Giovinco – $10,100 – Toronto FC – Giovinco has put up 11+ DraftKings points in nine consecutive matches, and is as reliable as they come in DFS. With the absence of Jozy Altidore, the diminutive Italian should be involved even more in the attack for Toronto FC.

Clint Dempsey – $10,500 – Seattle Sounders – Deuce now has a goal or an assist in 10 straight matches, dating back to last season, and has a good chance to make it 11 at home against a makeshift Sporting KC defense. With Obafemi Martins likely to miss out again, Dempsey will be leaned on to carry the Sounders attack once again tonight.

Alvaro Saborio – $7,800 – Real Salt Lake –  The Costa Rican striker looks to be coming around after getting off to a slow start. He’s scored just once in his last three outings, but has come close on numerous occasions while hitting 8+ DK points in three straight matches. A home game against a shaky NYCFC back line presents Sabo with a fine opportunity to show up with a big fantasy performance.

Others to Consider –  Charlie Davies (New England Revolution; $8,700), Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution; $8,100), Jack McInerney (Montreal Impact; $6,300), David Villa (New York City FC; $9,900)

Flex Appeal

Luke Moore  – $3,700 – Toronto FC – An injury to Jozy Altidore should present Luke Moore with added opportunity in the TFC attack. He’s essentially a poor man’s Jozy, and has been deployed in the same role as Altidore previously. His price makes him an option on a slate with so many high priced studs on the board. If Moore is included in the Toronto starting XI, he’s worth a look to free up some cap space.

Luis Solignac – $3,000 – Colorado Rapids –  The Rapids have two new toys at their disposal this evening, and both come at a discount while they work their way into the mix. While Kevin Doyle ($4,000) is the more high profile signing, i’m not expecting him to start having just arrived in Colorado this week.  Solignac was included in the starting lineup before their game versus Sporting KC was cancelled due to lightning last Saturday. At a bare minimum price, Solignac could provide salary relief at the Flex spot while picking up a handful of fantasy points along the way.
