The DraftKings $3.6 Million Summer Games are in full swing, and tonight MLS takes center stage. There is over $10K to be awarded across MLS contests tonight, so let’s jump right in and look at today’s targets. As always, be sure to monitor starting lineups to ensure your players are starting. I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff.
Brian Sylvestre – $4,700 – Philadelphia Union – The semi-pro loanee has been a big part of Philadelphia’s recent turnaround, notching three Clean Sheet wins in his last four games. Sylvestre will look to keep it going tonight against a struggling NYCFC attack.
Adam Kwarasey – $5,000 – Portland Timbers – Kwarasey has averaged 10+ DraftKings points per game over his last three outings, and has a favorable matchup at home tonight against a shorthanded New England Revolution.
Others to Consider – Steve Clark (Columbus Crew; $6,200), Tim Melia (Sporting KC; $5,200), Brian Rowe (LA Galaxy; $3,500)
Joevin Jones – $5,400 – Chicago Fire – The rookie wide back has been relatively quiet as of late. He has big upside thanks to his ability to join in the attack, and a matchup against an Orlando City attack that struggles on the road puts Jones back on my radar.
Sheanon Williams – $4,100 – Philadelphia Union – Williams is averaging 10.5 PPG over his last four games. The outside defender is good for a handful of crosses every game, picking up a DraftKings points for each cross he whips into the box. He’s a good bet to hit double digits again tonight against the expansion New York City FC.
Chris Tierney – $5,200 – New England Revolution – The fantasy production hasn’t been there lately, but Tierney still has the highest upside of any defender on the board. He’s an excellent crosser of the ball — and takes the majority of the Revs corner kicks — which bumps his odds to earn an assist.
Others to Consider – Jeff Larentowicz (Chicago Fire; $5,900), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy; $4,800), Jalil Anibaba (Sporting Kansas City; $5,100)
Graham Zusi – $6,700 – Sporting Kansas City – After a quiet start to 2014, “Zeus” busted out with a 26 point game last week against FC Dallas. He could shoulder even more of the attacking load for the home team tonight with leading scorer Krizstian Nemeth away on international duty and Dom Dwyer questionable with a neck injury.
Harry Shipp – $8,500 – Chicago Fire – The homegrown attacker now has a goal and an assist in his last two games – picking up 13 and 15 DraftKings points along the way. With Shaun Maloney overseas on international duty, look for Shipp to continue to lead the Fire attack.
Cristian Maidana – $7,400 – Philadelphia Union – The creative midfielder has produced double digit DK points in three consecutive games. He comes at a good price and has a good shot at another 10+ point outing tonight against an overmatched NYCFC squad.
Others to Consider – Kaka (Orlando City SC; $11,800), Pedro Morales (Vancouver Whitecaps; $8,600), Federico Higuain (Columbus Crew; $9,500), Lamar Neagle (Seattle Sounders; $5,900)
Kei Kamara – $11,100 – Columbus Crew – The leading goalscorer in all of MLS was rested midweek, but should be back in the mix tonight as the Crew look to get back on track. Kamara leads the league in both goals and shots on target, and had two straight 20+ point outings prior to the last game.
Giovinco – $10,700 – Toronto FC – The Italian maestro has 10 straight double digit fantasy outings. With Jozy Altidore out, Toronto is looking to him even more to carry the attack. Even though TFC is on the road tonight, I still like his chances to keep the double digit point streak alive.
Fabian Espindola – $8,500 – D.C. United – The Argentine striker returned from injury with a bang, coming on at halftime and contributing a pair of assists in D.C.’s 3-1 midweek win. If Espindola starts tonight, he’s among the best Forward options on the board at $8,500.
Others to Consider – David Accam (Chicago Fire; $7,100), David Villa (New York City FC; $10,400), Maximiliano Urruti (Portland Timbers; $6,300)
C.J. Sapong – $5,000 – Philadelphia Union – Sapong has two goals and an assist in his previous four games, and could be in line to start for Philly tonight after coming off the bench for a majority of the season.
Kennedy Igboananike – $5,900 – Chicago Fire – The Nigerian forward scored a goal and added an assist on his way to 26 DraftKings point last weekend. He came off the bench in Chicago’s midweek game, likely to give him some added rest going into this weekend. Roll Igboanankike out with confidence if he’s given the start tonight.
