A nice seven game MLS slate is on tap for Wednesday evening and DraftKings has over $5K in guaranteed prizes to hand out tonight. A lot of the teams playing tonight are on a short turnaround having played over the weekend, and most will also have another game this coming weekend. This means there is sure to be some roster rotation – so be mindful and monitor starting lineups as they are released. As always, I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff. Let’s take a look at my top targets for today.

Wednesday’s Contests

$1.5K MLS Striker – $3 entry

MLS $1.25K Equalizer – $27 entry

Goalkeeper

Tally Hall – $3,000 – Orlando City SC – We’ll start out with what looks to be a salary saving gift in net. Hall has two Clean Sheets in three home starts this season, and faces a Colorado attack that hasn’t scored a goal in two straight road games.

Brian Sylvestre – $3,300 – Philadelphia Union – Another near minimum priced goalkeeper playing at home, where the Union have a pair of Clean Sheet wins in their last three games. Normally I don’t like to target goalkeepers facing the potent Seattle Sounders attack, but considering they will once again be without their top attacking weapons in Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins, Sylvestre is on my radar tonight.

Others to Consider – Jaime Penedo (LA Galaxy; $5,600), Steve Clark (Columbus Crew; $4,900), Luis Robles (New York Red Bulls; $4,800)

Defender

Brek Shea – $6,100 – Orlando City SC – Back from international duty, Shea picked up 5 DK points on four crosses and a foul drawn over the weekend against Montreal. He’s now playing in attacking midfield role for Orlando, which gives his upside a significant boost playing alongside one of the best playmakers in the league in Kaka.

Joevin Jones – $4,700 – Chicago Fire  – The energetic outside back is a constant threat on the wings, which generally translates into crossing points on DraftKings. Jones is averaging three crosses per game over his last three appearances. Coming off a bye week, I like the Fire’s chances at keeping D.C. United off the scoreboard tonight and Jones should be poised to attack the fatigued visitors this evening.

Sheanon Williams – $3,600 – Philadelphia Union – If DraftKings awarded fantasy points for long throw-ins into the box, Williams would be in my lineup every slate! Regardless, he’s still known to get forward in the attack and swing some crosses in. I’m looking for Philly to bounce back from their big loss at LA with a good showing tonight and am targeting Williams to occupy one of my Defender spots at just $3,600

Others to Consider – Jeff Larentowicz (Chicago Fire; $5,100), Luke Boden (Orlando City SC; $3,300), Chris Tierney (New England Revolution; $5,200)

Midfielder

Kaka – $11,400 – Orlando City SC – The Brazilian super star will look to add to his streak of three straight home games with a goal tonight. He’s the priciest player on the board, but with all the value to go around you can find a way to work the ever-dangerous midfielder into the mix.

Federico Higuain – $8,600 – Columbus Crew – Columbus’ attacking cog has bulged the net in consecutive games now, and looks to be rounding into the fantasy force of years past. Coming off a bye week, the Argentine should be well rested and ready to roll tonight.

Cristian Maidana – $6,300 – Philadelphia Union – Maidana is tied for fifth in the league in assists and will continue to be counted on to pull the strings in the thin Union attack. He has five or more crosses in five of his last six games – making him a near lock for five points just from crosses alone.

Others to Consider – Marco Pappa (Seattle Sounders; $6,400), Harry Shipp (Chicago Fire; $7,300), Justin Meram (Columbus Crew; $7,200), Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake; $8,100), Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers; $6,100)

Forward

Sebastian Giovinco – $10,600 – Toronto FC – Giovinco came away with his first single-digit fantasy performance over the weekend, but that’s not stopping me from taking him tonight. He has three goals to go along with three assists in his last five games, and is always good for a plethora of shots, crosses and fouls drawn – making him my top target on Wednesday’s slate.

Kei Kamara – $9,400 – Columbus Crew – While he hasn’t bagged in three games, I’m going back to the well with the league’s leading goalscorer. Kamara has 14 shots over his last two games, and i’m targeting him to get back on track with a pair of games this week.

CJ Sapong – $6,000 – Philadelphia Union – The last man standing in the injury-plagued Philadelphia Union strikeforce has made good use of the uptick in playing time. Sapong has a goal in three straight games, and has four goals in his last five appearances.

Others to Consider – Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy; $9,800), Bradley Wright-Phillips (New York Red Bulls; $10,300), Joao Plata (Real Salt Lake; $5,300), Fabian Espindola (D.C. United; $8,800)

Flex Appeal

Felipe Martins – $6,000 – New York Red Bulls – Felipe had seven crosses last weekend and continues to be a consistent source of fantasy points even though he rarely contributes goals or assists. At just $6,000 he makes for a solid go-to play with a reliable floor that hovers around 10 PPG.

Kennedy Igboananike – $4,500 – Chicago Fire –  Add Igboananike to the list of excellent value plays on this Wednesday slate. The Nigerian hit man has connected for one goal on seven shots (three on target) in his last two outings and should be in line for more opportunities on goal tonight.
