MLS is back in action, with a four game Saturday evening slate to turn our attention towards. It is vital that you check starting lineups to ensure your players are starting, as there are a number of players questionable to play after returning from international duty. I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff. Let’s have a look at the top targets for today’s short slate:

Saturday’s Contests

$1.5K MLS Striker – $3 entry

MLS $1.5K Equalizer – $27 entry

Goalkeeper

Stefan Frei – $5,800 – Seattle Sounders – The Seattle goalkeeper backs up his steep price tag with double digit DraftKings outings in eight straight games. Frei has allowed just one goal over his last five games at home and is the most reliable option in net tonight.

Evan Bush – $4,100 – Montreal Impact – His last Clean Sheet came all the way back in March, but Bush is consistently posting solid fantasy numbers. He has four consecutive games of 10 or more DK points, thanks in large part to the number of saves he is forced to make. I expect Bush to be peppered with shots at Yankee Stadium tonight, once again giving fantasy owners a cheap GK option in hopes that he continues to stop more shots than he lets in.

Others to Consider – Steve Clark (Columbus Crew; $5,200), Bobby Shuttleworth (New England Revolution; $5,500), Josh Saunders (New York City FC; $4,900)

Defender

Chris Tierney – $5,200 – New England Revolution – The left back hasn’t been producing the fantasy goods as he did earlier in the year, but on a short slate he is a top target of mine regardless. He takes corner kicks, free kicks and is a crossing threat on the flanks. The Revs also have a good matchup at home against the Fire, which could see Tierney earn additional defensive bonus points. The upside is there for another 23-point outburst that we saw earlier in the season.

Tyrone Mears – $5,900 – Seattle Sounders  – Mears has a pair of recent 10+ point DK performances on his game log, and makes for an excellent play at home and on a short slate. He’s not shy about joining in on the attack down the right flank, and should see plenty of opportunity to pickup more crossing points tonight.

Waylon Francis – $5,400 – Columbus Crew – Like Tierney, the Crew wide back has not been up to par after a hot start that saw Francis regularly top the 10-point threshold. His crossing ability is still there, and he’ll be serving balls in to the leagues leading scorer tonight in Kei Kamara. I’m targeting Francis and the Crew to get back on track tonight.

Others to Consider – Jeff Larentowicz (Chicago Fire; $5,700), Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders; $3,900), Lovel Palmer (Chicago Fire; $3,100), Michel (FC Dallas; $3,900), London Woodberry (New England Revolution; $5,000)

Midfielder

Federico Higuain – $9,600 – Columbus Crew – The high priced Argentine playmaker has the highest ceiling of any midfielder on the board today. He scored a goal last week in the Crew’s 2-1 loss to the Montreal Impact, and is averaging 8.4 FPPG on the season. The Crew will be eager to right the ship tonight, and Higuain will be relied upon to make things happen in the attack.

Lee Nguyen – $7,900 – New England Revolution – After an MVP-like 2014 season (18 goals, 5 assists), Lee’s production has dipped significantly to start 2015. He’s posted a handful of nice lines this season, but still hasn’t had a breakout game like we saw from him on many occasions last season. With only four games to choose from, I’m eying Nguyen to bust out of his funk tonight.

Ignacio Piatti – $7,700 – Montreal Impact – The Impact’s attacking cog has two goals and three assists in his last five games, while putting up a few eye popping DraftKings performances over that span. He’ll look to keep the fantasy points coming tonight against the expansion NYCFC, who have allowed six goals over their last three outings at home.

Others to Consider – Ethan Finlay (Columbus Crew; $7,300), Mauro Diaz (FC Dallas; $8,200), Stefan Ishizaki (LA Galaxy; $8,400), Harry Shipp (Chicago Fire; $8,600)

Forward

David Villa – $10,800 – New York City FC – One of all-time greatest goal scorers in the world, Villa welcomes a shaky Montreal Impact defense to Yankee Stadium tonight. Kei Kamara logged 10 shots versus the Impact last weekend, and while he didn’t connect for a goal – he still earned 12 DK points from Shots and Shots on Goal alone. I’m targeting Villa to have a similar stat line, and if he can convert his chances the Spaniard is in for a big night.

Kei Kamara – $11,300 – Columbus Crew – Kamara leads the league with 10 goals on the season, and is second only to Toronto’s Giovinco in total Shots (60) and Shots on Goal (26). He’ll be eager to get back on the board after coming up empty handed after rattling off 10 shots last weekend.

Clint Dempsey – $10,100 – Seattle Sounders – The Sounders hit man was absent last week due to the birth of his son, but all signs point to Deuce returning to action Saturday night. Dempsey is third in the league in both goals (7) and assists (6) and is worth paying up for against a struggling FC Dallas squad.

Others to Consider – Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders; $9,700), Blas Perez (FC Dallas; $7,400), Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas; $8,900), Charlie Davies (New England Revolution; $8,800)

Flex Appeal

Diego Fagundez – $5,600 – New England Revolution –  If Fagundez gets the start tonight, he’s certainly worth a look. He’s seen a bump in playing time as of late, and his confidence was boosted by a scintillating free-kick goal against the LA Galaxy. With the majority of reliable fantasy options priced relatively high, I like Fagundez at just $5,600 tonight.

Cristian Roldan – $3,800 – Seattle Sounders –  With Marco Pappa set to miss out due to international duty, Roldan should play a larger role in the attack tonight. He’s shown flashes of his attacking potential, but has yet to completely break through with a big performance. At just $3,800, he’s worth targeting as a GPP punt to free up funds and spend big elsewhere.
