We have some big GPPs on the DraftKings board, with four MLS matches to build your fantasy team around. With seven weeks in the book, we have enough of a sample size to know the roles each player has with their respective teams. We also know who is hot, and which vulnerable defenses to target. Let’s take a look at some players who will give you a good shot at winning your contests tonight.
Steve Clark – $5,300 – Columbus Crew – Clark has posted back-to-back clean sheets and now gets the inconsistent Philadelphia Union at home. While the Union do have some attacking threats, Clark is one of the top goalkeeper options on the board with the Crew firing on all cylinders.
Bobby Shuttleworth – $4,600 – New England Revolution – The New England shot stopper faces a sputtering Real Salt Lake attack tonight. Real Salt Lake have struggled without midfield maestro Javier Morales, who looks to be out again due to injury. RSL have failed to score in consecutive games now, and have just one goal in their last three games.
Others to Consider – Tyler Deric (Houston Dynamo; $4,700), David Ousted (Vancouver Whitecaps; $4,600)
Hernan Grana – $3,900 – Columbus Crew – The Argentine right-back will be hard to pass on at this price. Aside from the good opportunity to collect clean sheet points, Grana is an excellent crosser of the ball. He’s tallied 11 crosses over the last two games, and it’s only a matter of time before those turn into assists.
Chris Tierney – $4,000 – New England Revoloution – When he’s on the field, he’s a very reliable source of fantasy points from a Defender. Tierney’s wicked left foot is on display throughout the game in the form of numerous crosses and free kicks. He’s come off the bench recently as he returns to full strength, so keep an eye on the starting lineups before going all-in on him.
Demar Phillips – $4,600 – Real Salt Lake – In his second career start, Phillips showed a lot of energy at left back. The speedy Jamaican whipped in five crosses on the night and should have a similar role attacking out of the back this evening against the Revs.
Others to Consider – Kofi Sarkodie (Houston Dynamo; $4,300), Marcel de Jong (Sporting KC; $3,500), Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew; $3,6oo)
Pedro Morales – $8,000 – Vancouver Whitecaps – The Whitecaps offensive catalyst looks set to make an impact as he returns from his red card suspension. Morales tallied 10 goals and 12 assists last season on his way to being named the 2014 MLS Newcomer of the Year, and will have ample opportunity to boost his 2015 totals tonight.
Lee Nguyen – $7,400 – New England Revolution – Still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Nguyen is looking to regain the form that saw him post 18 goals and five assists last season. “MV-Lee” possesses the ability to unlock a defense at any given moment and is sure to be involved in the Revs attack tonight.
Brad Davis – $7,800 – Houston Dynamo – The Dynamo veteran has underperformed this season, but I am not throwing the towel in on him just yet. One of the best crossers in the league, I wouldn’t put it past Davis to post a multi-assist game tonight in what could be a back-and-forth affair against Sporting KC.
Others to Consider – Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution; $6,500), Benny Fielhaber (Sporting KC; $7,300), Chris Pontius (D.C. United; $7,000), Graham Zusi (Sporting KC; $6,300)
Kei Kamara – $9,100 – Columbus Crew – The Crew attack is firing on all cylinders right now with Kamara leading the way. It’s pick your poison with him and Higuain as they are both capable of posting big numbers. Kamara fits the mold of a DraftKings target forward as he leads the league in both shots (28) and shots on goal (13).
Federico Higuain – $7,500 – Columbus Crew – The Crew playmaker finally broke through last week with a one goal, one assist performance on his way to posting 24 DraftKings. Constantly looking to create, Higuain is linking up well with Kamara, making the duo one of the most dangerous combos in the league. A struggling Philadelphia Union will have a hard time slowing Higuain and the Crew attack down.
Octavio Rivero – $9,400 – Vancouver Whitecaps – Rivero is off to a fast start with a league-leading five goals so far in 2015. Rivero is second to only Kei Kamara in both shots and shots on goal. There is enough value on the board to pay up for one of the most dangerous strikers in MLS.
Others to Consider – Giles Barnes (Houston Dynamo; $7,600), Charlie Davies (New England Revolution $6,400), Kekuta Manneh (Vancouver Whitecaps; $5,200), Dom Dwyer (Sporting KC; $9,000)
Fabian Espindola – $6,700 – D.C. United – Returning from a six-game suspension to start the season, Espindola will make his 2015 debut tonight. While it is yet to be seen what role he will have, it is no secret that Espindola is the top attacking option for D.C. He may be eased back into the mix off the bench, but if he happens to start he could be an interesting play to set your team apart from the pack.
Darren Mattocks – $5,800 – Vancouver Whitecaps – Mattocks is hot right now with two goals in his last three matches. Over his last three, his DraftKings point totals are 14, 2 and 28. The Jamaican is one of the fastest players in the league and will test the D.C. back line tonight.
As always, I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter as they become available (usually an hour before the match kicks off). Follow me @FantasySoccerFC to be sure your players are starting.
