This two game slate starts Wednesday and concludes Friday night in Los Angeles. As we look at today’s MLS Game Breakdown I will be analyzing some injury concerns, point out some key players who are at the Gold Cup, and look for potential breakout players for both games. Also follow me on Twitter (@jwl_15) for injury and lineup updates throughout the day.
Columbus Crew @ Chicago Fire
Columbus went back to their inconsistent ways last week as they lost 3-0 to the Montreal Impact. With all the attacking ability they have on the field, they should be able to score at least one goal a game. The problem this year has been their defense, which continues to be shuffled each week. Hopefully the return of holding midfielder, Will Trapp, will lead to more consistency in defense in the coming weeks. As for Chicago, they picked up a late point last week due to Jason Johnson’s goal, but still are looking to find a way to win more games. David Accam should be back to full strength this week, as will Shaun Maloney. Defenders Adailton, Jeff Larentowicz and Joevin Jones will all be out of Wednesday’s game, but this is something Chicago has had to deal with in the past. Expect Chicago to be the more confident team, especially at home as they look to pick up a couple points in a row.
Line: (Pick) O/U: 2 ½ (o:-120 , u:-110)
Players to Watch
- Kei Kamara, Columbus Crew ($10,400)
- Ethan Finlay, Columbus Crew ($8,400)
- David Accam, Chicago Fire ($4,400)
- Shaun Maloney, Chicago Fire ($5,200)
San Jose Earthquakes @ LA Galaxy
After the midweek loss to Real Salt Lake, I expect the Galaxy to be a very dangerous team to face on Friday. Steven Gerrard has arrived and will likely be able to play 90 minutes. Also the announcement that Giovanni Dos Santos will sign with LA should but a huge boost in the Galaxy squad. I would expect it to take some time for all the star players to mesh with the current players, especially with Gyasi Zardes, Omar Gonzalez, and now Alan Gordon out of the squad with the USMNT. As for the Earthquakes, they will look to avoid their third straight loss, but without Chris Wondolowski that may be a difficult task. He has carried the team in scoring this season and they have struggled in his absence. Expect the LA Galaxy to dominate this game from start to finish, and Robbie Keane is a must start for your fantasy lineups.
Line: LA Galaxy (-1) O/U: 2 ½ (o: -120, u: -110)
Players to Watch
- Matias Perez Garcia, San Jose Earthquake ($8,500)
- Quincy Amarikwa, San Jose Earthquake ($4,500)
- Robbie Keane, LA Galaxy ($10,700)
- Steven Gerrard, LA Galaxy ($7,600)
