Just a small two game slate on Sunday with Manchester United vs Swansea City and Norwich City vs Southampton. In today’s EPL Targets I will be analyzing some of the best plays for this slate of games and point out some of the best values based on price. Also follow me on Twitter (@jwl_15) for injury and lineup updates throughout the day.
Sergio Romero – ($5,000) – Manchester United – In David De Gea’s absence, Romero has been pretty solid to say the least. He has three straight clean sheets to start the season and will now face Swansea City. Their attack of Bafetimbi Gomis, Jefferson Montero, and Andre Ayew has been very good so far, but Manchester United should to able to slow down their face paced attack. Romero looks like the number one goalkeeper moving forward and should be a great play this Sunday.
Martin Stekelenburg – ($5,300) – Southampton – Stekelenburg and the Southampton defense has been very poor so far this year. Last weekend was the first game Stekelenburg scored a positive number of points after earning -2 and -4 the first two games. He has a more favorable matchup this Sunday against Norwich City, as goalkeepers have earned double digit points against Norwich in two of their three games.
Lukasz Fabianski – ($4,800) – Swansea City – Fabianski followed up his brilliant performance against Newcastle with a very subpar performance against Sunderland. He made only one save and let up one goal, but will likely have a chance to bounce back on Sunday. Fabianski will be facing a Manchester United team that saw Wayne Rooney get out of his early season slump midweek against Club Brugge. With only a two game slate, value goalies are hard to come by, but Fabianski is the least expensive.
Cedric – ($4,600) – Southampton – Cedric had another solid game in attack with 17 points on DraftKings, although Southampton was unable to crack Watford in a 0-0 draw. The clean sheet bonus was another plus as it helped him earn his second double digit point game in his first three games. Glen Johnson had a poor game last week against Norwich, but I expect Cedric to have a much larger impact on the game.
Matteo Darmian – ($4,700) – Manchester United. – Darmian has yet to score double digit points in a Premier League game this season, but he has been very good in defense. Swansea has been very good offensively, but I expect Darmian to get forward most of game and as Rooney’s play improves, so will the numbers of Darmian and Luke Shaw.
Kyle Naughton – ($3,900) – Swansea City – Naughton earned double digit points for the second straight week last Saturday against Sunderland. He picked up his first assist on the season and will look to build on that this weekend against Manchester United. I expect him to be defending much more than he was against Sunderland, but if he can get forward he should be able to get some crosses into the box for the likes of Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew.
Russell Martin – ($3,500) – Norwich City – Martin has scored in two straight games from his fullback position and will look to continue his good run of form against Southampton on Sunday. Not that you should count on him scoring more goals, but his ability to get forward so far this season has been impressive and should give him the opportunity to pick up more points as we move forward in the season.
Juan Mata – ($8,400) – Manchester United – Mata scored double digit points for the first time this season against Newcastle last weekend. He took five shots and added four more crosses, but Manchester United was unable to score in a 0-0 draw. Mata did pick up an assist midweek against Club Brugge in a 4-0 win and I would expect Mata’s numbers to improve as Wayne Rooney and Memphis continue to build chemistry at the top of the Manchester United attack.
Nathan Redmond – ($6,000) – Norwich City – Redmond jumps to the “Studs” part of the targets after picking up his first assist last weekend and earning double digit points for the third straight game. Redmond has been spectacular so far this season and at $6,000 he should be a popular play this Sunday. Southampton has given up five goals in three games this season and Redmond will look to increase that number as he looks for his third goal of this early season.
Jefferson Montero – ($5,500) – Swansea City – Montero once again is a value this weekend as he finally played a full 90 minutes last weekend. It was the first time this season he did that, but I doubt it will be his last. Matteo Darmian will have to be on high alert all game as we have already seen Montero turn Branislav Ivanovic in circles this season.
Wes Hoolahan – ($4,200) – Norwich City – Hoolahan is another player looking to get more minutes and his numbers say he should. He has three assists in three games this season, but hasn’t played more than 77 minutes in their last two games. With Nathan Redmond, among others playing in front of Hoolahan, I don’t see why he won’t produce many more assists as the season moves forward.
Wayne Rooney – ($10,700) – Manchester United – Rooney’s form has been poor so far this Premier League season, but that may change after his three goal and 41 point performance midweek against Club Brugge. Rooney is still the main man for Manchester United and they expect goals out of him week in and week out. I expect him to get on the board this Sunday.
Graziano Pelle – ($8,700) – Southampton – Pelle struggled last weekend against Watford and will look to turn it back around against Norwich City. Norwich City has conceded five goals so far this season and Pelle should have plenty of chances to get back on the scoresheet. The big question will be if Sadio Mane will also be in the squad as rumors swirl about a potential move to Manchester United.
Bafetimbi Gomis – ($7,400) – Swansea City – Although Gomis should probably be considered a Stud this week after scoring in each of his first three games this season, he is a Value based on his $7,400 price. He has scored double digit points in each of his first three games as well, but he will have a difficult task ahead of him this Sunday against Manchester United. They are yet to conceded a goal this season, but the form of Swansea City’s attacking three should make it difficult on Sergio Romero and the Manchester United defenders.
Robbie Brady – ($4,500) – Norwich City – Brady may not have anything to show on the score sheet for his efforts early in the season, but he has been very valuable for fantasy lineups. He has scored double digit points in each of the first three games and is averaging 7 crosses per game so far this season. At some point those crosses will turn into assists and more for the former Manchester United man.
