After some exciting midweek Capital One Cup matches, the Premier League returns with eight games on Saturday. The early game between Manchester City and Tottenham will be left out of the larger GPP contests, but will still be a very intriguing game. In today’s EPL Targets I will be analyzing some of the best plays for this slate of games and point out some of the best values based on price. Also follow me on Twitter (@jwl_15) for injury and lineup updates throughout the day.
Adrian – ($5,300) – West Ham United – Adrian returned from his absence with a very strong game in a huge win over Manchester City. He made seven saves in the win and helped hand Man City their first loss of the season. West Ham now face a Norwich City team that has been inconsistent all year and I would bet high on Adrian at home.
David De Gea – ($5,600) – Manchester United – De Gea earned his first win of the season, although he did give up two goals to Southampton last weekend. He made six spectacular saves and was key in Manchester United’s win. He finally returned after his long transfer saga and looks like he is still one of the top goalkeepers in the world as he was all of last season.
Kasper Schmeichel – ($4,400) – Leicester City – Schmeichel may not look like a great play on paper, but against Arsenal, any goalkeeper has been a strong play so far this season. All you have to do is look at how many point opposing goalkeepers have scored this season against Arsenal. Every goalkeeper has scored 15 or more points in every game against Arsenal this season. They have the talent in attack to put up multiple goals at any time, but based on the current track record this season, Schmeichel is a very solid play.
Aaron Cresswell – ($5,200) – West Ham United – Cresswell was unable to get involved in the West Ham attack last weekend for obvious reasons. Manchester City were on attack much of the game, forcing Cresswell to be very conservative when going forward. Expect him to be back to his normal self at home against Norwich City and he will look to add to his two assists on the season already.
Alberto Moreno – ($4,400) – Liverpool – Moreno looks like he may have secured a midfield role for Liverpool and made a huge impact on the Norwich City game last weekend. Even with Liverpool’s inconsistencies so far this season, Moreno earned an impressive 19 fantasy points on eight crosses and recorded his first assist on the season. If Moreno is in the starting lineup, he will be a great play on Saturday, especially if playing in an advanced role.
Kyle Naughton – ($4,200) – Swansea City – Naughton earned 10 points last weekend and it was the first time in three weeks that he earned double digit points. He will be challenged by the likes of Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane on Saturday against Southampton, but this game should be a very open game. Both teams love to get forward and scored goals, and expect the fullbacks to be a key component in attack.
Simon Francis – ($4,200) – Bournemouth – Francis earned double digit points for the third time in his last four games after scoring ten points against Sunderland last weekend. He now has made 14 crosses over his last three games and has shown a great ability to get forward to help out in attack. Bournemouth play Stoke City on Saturday, who gave up two goals last weekend to Leicester City and have been shutout three times already this season.
Riyad Mahrez – ($10,000) – Leicester City – Mahrez continues to dominate which is the reason why his price on DraftKings has risen drastically. He has scored 23+ points in all but one game so far this season. He has five goals and three assists, making him a constant threat from anywhere on the pitch. Arsenal are a pretty strong team defensively, but expect Mahrez to continue his outstanding form as he leads Leicester City on this impressive early season run.
Juan Mata – ($9,100) – Manchester United Mata scored his second goal of the season last weekend against Southampton. He now has two goals and an assist this season, proving to be one of the more impressive attacking threats for Manchester United. Sunderland gave up two goals to Bournemouth last weekend and Manchester United are just now getting into form. They will likely play a very attacking lineup with their injuries in defense, and the arrival of Anthony Martial will only help Juan Mata as he creates chances all over the pitch.
Jefferson Montero – ($5,700) – Swansea City – Montero continues to be a very affordable, but very valuable play in the midfield each week. He earned double digit points yet again last weekend, and recorded eight more crosses. That’s 17 crosses in his last 120 minutes of playing time, which is a cross every seven minutes. Unfortunately he only has one assist on the season, but at the rate he is sending crosses into the box, he is bound to increase his assist total as the year progresses.
Xherdan Shaqiri – ($6,100) – Stoke City – Shaqiri looked dangerous last weekend, as he picked up his second double digit performance since joining the Premier League. He recorded eight crosses and added two more shots, but still seems to be adjusting to the style of play in England. It’s only a matter of time until Shaqiri finds his legs and becomes one of the more dangerous threats week in and week out. Stoke City will play Bournemouth on Saturday, who have been pretty solid defensively, but has given up seven goals in three road games this season.
Graziano Pelle – ($9,300) – Southampton – Pelle doubled his season total in goals last weekend, but his brace wasn’t enough to top Manchester United at home. Pelle has four goals on 28 shots this season, and is clearly one of the most dominant physical threats in the league. Swansea City have only give up three goals since the opening weekend, but with Sadio Mane returning, Southampton’s creator has returned and will only provide Pelle with more chances in front of goal.
Diafra Sakho – ($8,400) – West Ham United – Sakho scored again last weekend and now has two goals in his last three games. West Ham United now play a Norwich City team that has given up six goals in their three away games this season. The arrival of Victor Moses to West Ham has been huge and expect both to be very influential in Saturday’s match.
Anthony Martial – ($7,800) – Manchester United – Martial scored his fourth goal in Manchester United colors in a midweek Capital One Cup win. He scored two goals in his first Premier League start last weekend against Southampton and has solidified himself as a must start for Manchester United and for your daily fantasy lineups. They face a Sunderland team that has given up eight goals on the road this season, and are coming off a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup.
Callum Wilson – ($8,100) – Bournemouth – Wilson scored again last weekend and now has five goals in his last three games. Stoke City has given up at least two goals in three of their games this season. Wilson has been a threat all season for Bournemouth and has shown that the promotion to the Premier League won’t be as hard of a transition as some thought it would be. Expect Wilson to continue to get plenty of chances on goal against Stoke City on Saturday.
