Well we have come to the final four in the champions league we have two excellent matchups to settle the debate on who is the best of Europe. With the remaining four teams being Real Madrid (Defending Champs), Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Juventus, the stakes are at their highest and the excitement will peak when the first match kicks off this Tuesday May 5th. To celebrate, DraftKings has offered a number of contests that we can play in to enjoy these games
Real Madrid enters this match having barely made it through after beating their cross town rivals Atletico Madrid in the last round 1-0 on aggregate. The team will be without Karim Benzema and as such will play Gareth Bale up front alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez. All three of these players are in good spots today, but obviously Ronaldo carries extra weight as the center forward and one of the most prolific goal scorers in the world right now. In the back, I wouldn’t hesitate to roster either of the full backs, with Marcelo returning from suspension.
Real Madrid’s defense has been suspect this season, and they have allowed some goals to come in. However, with this matchup coming against Juventus, their defense probably has the best chance of holding a clean sheet. The win is suspect as both Juventus and Real Madrid have about even odds to win this matchup. But If I had to pick one goalkeeper (and I do) I’d go with Iker Casillas for Real Madrid.
In the midfield, Kroos and Isco have the potential to put up a good goal line, however, they will not get as many touches in the final third as the three players playing in front of goal.
They’re playing at home against a team that should be an overwhelming favorite. They are however about even in vegas odds making this a good opportunity to roster some Juventus players. The ones I like the most are the two forwards Tevez and Morata who both should have some opportunities on the counter attack. Also, worth rostering is Gigi Buffon as your keeper as he potentially will face plenty of save opportunities making him a great play for his price as the third highest starting keeper (out of four), he is a GPP play only though as Real Madrid has the quality and the talent to put up several goals and break down a defense very quickly.
Barcelona enters this home matchup with Bayern Munich as a heavy favorite. Bayern is missing several of its key players including Robben, Lewandowski, Alaba and Ribery. Due to this, Bayern will be playing with a depleted squad that has struggled in recent weeks and unfortunately a matchup in Camp Nou will not fix what ails them. Barcelona will attack Bayern early and often and coming off two La Liga matchups where they scored 14 goals and conceded none, puts them in an excellent spot this week to come away with a multi-goal win.
The usual suspects are in play here with Messi, Suarez and Neymar all being options up front. They have all been scoring recently as well as assisting and really each match can feature any of the three as the top scorer for the team. The only midfielder worth considering is Xavi, but he doesn’t start on a regular basis so keep an eye out for the starting XI. Other options in this matchup are the fullbacks or even the goalkeeper, however, I wouldn’t be surprised if Bayern manage a goal or two in this matchup, albeit an unlikely scenario.
Last but not least, Bayern enter this matchup without a lot of expectation as they are a big underdog. This remove the pressure and they now find themselves free of the burden. This could translate to an open match where Bayern outplay their opponent in stretches and that could lead to some goals or several attempts. Gotze and Muller should be the top two targets here. If Lewandowski ends up playing he’s obviously in play as well. Otherwise, I’m stay away from the defense and the goalkeeper against a strong Barcelona squad that can score goals in bunches even on their bad days.
